Students are able to do much more because they are home and not living on campus where there are a lot of rules. Commuting students have a considerable amount of freedom. It is a different type of freedom because living on campus students do not have to worry about their parents. A commuter can go back and forth and does not have to worry about the rules living on campus. So students living in dorms do not really have to worry about traveling back and forth to school, and they do not have a lot of time to themselves vs. a commuter but they both have a share of responsibility.
Students in these programs would require hands-on work to gain the appropriate knowledge in that program. Without the hands-on work, it would be very difficult for that student to learn the required material. Another reason why online classes aren't for everyone is because every person does not have the internet access required to receive the course material needed. Some students don't even own a computer, let alone internet access. Also, some students learn better in a class with others because they learn through physical interaction or by being in the learning environment, so they would not feel as if they are alone.

It's easier to focus when there are only 20 people in one class rather then 60 people. There are many students who need face to face time with their professor especially the first two years of college, and community colleges make it so much easier to do so. The cost is reduced dramatically, if a student isn't too sure of what they want to be, it wouldn't harm their wallet as nearly as bad as a university would, and the class sizes are incredibly smaller so it would be much easier to focus and seek the help you need when you need it. That is the prevailing purpose for an individual to choose to live at home instead of on campus during college, although it is not the only reason. Room and board can be a very large expense that not everyone can afford to pay. If that is the case, living at home is a reasonable choice. Living off campus also gives the student more privacy and/or support from his or her family at home which some people are more comfortable with. It seems as if living off campus is not a bad choice until one examines the lifestyle of a student who lives on campus.
