Book Report My book ‘Endangered’ by Eliot Schrefer, was about a young girl named Sophie who had to fight to stay alive, taking care of not just herself, but a baby bonobo she named Otto. My book interested me in many ways. One way it interested me was because it showed the bond humans can have with an animal, so therefor we should stop people from killing animals. My quote I used is “The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom”. I chose this quote because it tells us that killing animals happens faster than someone gathering knowledge.
Do we worry too much about the welfare of animals? Although I personally believe that we do not worry enough about the welfare of animals, I must debate and explore both sides of the argument in order to make a fair judgement. We are constantly surrounded by endless animal cruelty statistics, animal charity and sanctuary commercials and shocking images of how global warming is taking its toll upon the welfare of wild animals in the affected regions. However, we are equally kept informed about the struggles people, our species, endure on a daily basis in the third world countries, whether affected by natural disasters or famine. Some may use this to claim that we worry too much about the welfare of animals, when in reality we should be focusing on the more important matters such as charities which help to support those suffering from injustice, war, and are in need of food and simple supplies in order to survive.
He had his good qualities and his bad, and you could learn a lot from him. For example, you can see Piggy’s wisdom and intelligence on page 151, Ralph and Piggy go to the feast the boys are having and soon after, Piggy states, “Come away. There’s going to be trouble and we’ve had our meat.” Piggy knew there was going to be trouble a the feast and if Ralph had listened to him they wouldn’t have been caught up in the riot and kill Simon. Piggy is also flawed because of this. Piggy helped take an innocent life and no one perfect would do
When horses suffer significant injuries in steeple chasing they are euthanized swiftly, which further demonstrates it is not a cruel sport. The sport Steeple chasing, better known as horse jumps, is widely recognised as cruel, but the truth is people who think its cruel are dim-witted and uneducated, as it is in fact beneficial
Some believe animals are an unintelligent species and are just savage creature trying to live in this world. In the essay written by Bass, he describes how the hunters and the animals imagine their prey’s movements. This is giving animals the intelligence to think and react to another animal’s movements. This means Bass believes animals are creatures with the ability to think. In the essay “Am I Blue?” Walker talks about how the horse is “like a crazed person.” This happened because the two horses on a farm were separated after bonding.
Imagine a world if animals dominated it, and they treated us they same way we treated them. I would personally change my ways in treating animals because I hate it whenever I am looked down upon. Lastly, people should feel bad or have their conscience get to them whenever they mistreat all the animals in their life. If they don’t, what does that say about
Truly, it is a horrible story with gore and cannibalism but very similar to the story with animals. The only difference is that people played the role of the animals of the first story. The men more readily find the second story plausible, but do not want to believe it because it contains people eating people, gore, and violence different than that of the first story. Humans are favored and valued over the animals. Once Pi finishes telling his story to the insurance men, he asks them “which is the better story, the story with the animals or the story without the animals” (344).
Just thinking about the skinning of an animal terrifies me, but it saddens me more to know that there are people in the world that can kill animals just for the profit that it can bring to them. When an animal is captured, it is put through unbelievable pain. It sometimes drives the animal to tear through its own flesh and bone, sometimes the animal even loose teeth because they bite on the trap. Sometimes the animals are left suffering for hours before the hunters show up to kill the animal by stumping on the animal. This type of animal cruelty is legal for people with a license to hunt, but for those who are not legalized hunters can face many years in prison and be fined thousands of dollars.
Throughout that time these animals become so unadapt to their new surroundings, they become less likely to return to their natural state which gives those experimenting more reason to test them. Most of these senseless experiments are funding by the federal government using the public’s tax dollars and by health charities, which are wasting precious dollars on irrelevant experiments on animals instead of spending the money on promising human-based research (Peta). Norfleet 2 A few companies have banned the use of animal testing, but often the companies that continue to test animals produce inaccurate or misleading results. These results are giving the okay to more and more products being sold to you. Why continue to test animals that may give inaccurate results on products that can still be sold to the human race?
‘Experimenting with animals is worthy as it saves human life’ INTRO: Using animals to advance scientific knowledge understand disease and develop and test new medicines and life saving cures is a very controversial topic in today’s society. Whilst some go to extremes such as using violence to protect animals, others see no moral problems with animal testing for medical research as it is benefiting humans. FOR: Animal testing in the past has proved to be very successful, as it has developed vaccines to diseases such as TB, rabies and mumps. Every medical therapy has evolved from animal research for his reason it is believed that Animal testing is a good thing. If a doctor wants to use animals for research they have to prove that the harm of the animal equals the benefit it will give the human, also, through legislation all lab animals must be protected form cruelty of mistreatment.
