Use of Technology in Schooling The computer, this technological advancement, started off being used in businesses around the world. Then, it found its way into our homes and soon after, our educational systems. Computer technology is a very big part of life as we know it today. We use computers for everything. We not only have desktop computers, we have laptops, too. We have videogames, televisions, stereos, cell phones, and so many other computer technologies that we do not even think about. Since there have been so many advancements with computers, it was only a matter of time before they came into our schools. Computers in schools are meant to increase the students learning abilities in and out of the classroom. Therefore, there are many different effects of having computers in teaching facilities that can be seen. The educational system is not what it used to be. According to Hall, Traditional schools like the methods of teaching used in the past that are known to work. Also he says that these schools main goals are to “pass the dominant culture” to today’s youth and to “provide knowledge” that will make sure students can succeed in life (Hall 9). These goals haven’t really changed in recent years even if the methods of achieving them have. Today we use computers in the classroom, while traditionally, everything was done by hand. We know that the traditional methods of teaching work fairly well, but that does not mean they are the only ways to do things in the classroom. Today, we are teaching kids how to use computers to help enhance their learning ability. By having laptops in classrooms, there are many different effects that can be made. Students today like to work with their peers. With students having computers in class, they can look over their shoulder to compare their work with their neighbor, remark on each other’s work, or try to
