Being able to settle in one area like an urbanized society was a big advantage. They did not have to constantly be moving area from place to place and also they could grow large amounts of food. Although growing your own crops is very hard, its better than moving around and they had a pretty good chance of supporting themselves for a lifetime. Although country living and city living are on two totally different sides of the spectrum, they both contribute to our American culture. There are many differences between living in the city and living in the country. City living is more fast-paced. When you live in the city you don't really need a car, which makes it a little more exercise-friendly. The city is also rich in culture and art.
Big cities on the other hand sometimes tend to be very messy. The only reason some cities aren’t very messy is because the city employees make sure that it's not messy by cleaning up, doing a lot more work than they should have to do. Freedom from the boundaries of society can occur when one goes to the place where he/she is comfortable. For Ralph Waldo Emerson in the wilderness he “find[s] something more dear and connate than in streets or villages. In the tranquil landscape, and especially in the distant line of the horizon, man beholds somewhat as beautiful as his own nature” (Nature). One is free to be him/herself, with no outside problems; nothing is bogging the self down from freedom.
From experience my barriers have been my own confidence in my own role i feel this is lack of training/support within a new position. I have also had financial barriers with not enough funding to cover cost of courses which is a challenge itself.
