Unit CU857: Communicate Information and Knowledge 1.1 - We were changing the weekly exercise class and activity programme for the half-term holiday. Some new classes and activities were added, some were removed and the times for some of them were changed to reflect the different needs of guests and families on holiday rather than the usual club members. 1.2 - First and foremost all current members of the Country Club needed to be aware of these changes. It also needs to be accessible to guests arriving to stay on site. 2.1 – The most basic method for communicating information and knowledge is verbal communication. This is effective, but has certain drawbacks – it’s hard to monitor who has received the information, and almost impossible to ensure that our large and diverse membership all are aware of what they need to know. Written information is much easier to track and, if displayed correctly, can ensure that all reasonable efforts have been made to communicate the information to a wide range of people. 2.2 – To select the most appropriate technique and method you must first identify what the information is and how complex it may be – the more complicated it is, the more likely you are to need some form of written or non-verbal information. You also need to identify who needs to know this information, how many people you need to reach, and how important it is that they receive it. By fully evaluating all of these things you can make an informed decision on the best way of communicating. 3.1 – We printed out posters explaining the changes and put them in strategically important places round the club, where we knew there is a lot of foot traffic and so would be likely to be seen. We also put the new programme up at reception, and included a copy in the welcome packs that guests receive when they arrive on site. Members of staff also were briefed to remind
