Introduction The purpose of this assignment is to discuss the following subjects; • Managing interpersonal communication skills. • Managing workplace communications. • Understanding organisational communications. I will include a mixture of theory and practical applications of the above subjects. 1. Managing interpersonal communication skills. 1.1 I conducted a short survey with eight colleagues on my communication skills. Using a scoring system of 1 to 5, with 1 being the highest; I asked the following questions. 1. How effective are my electronic communications, emails etc? 2. Am I quick to reply to your messages? 3. How effective are my listening skills? 4. How often do you need to clarify a message? 5. Overall, how would you rate my communication skills? 1.2 I received an average score of 4 on all questions, with the exception of question 3, where I scored an average of 3. Although, this was only a short survey with a limited number of participants, the results indicated to me that my communication skills were of a good standard but still left room for improvement. To quantify the results of the survey, I carried out a performance review on myself. I did this in the form of a SWOT analysis. In the analysis, I looked at my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities to improve my communication skills and any barriers (threats) to my effective communication. The main area of improvement required was in my active listening skills, as I found through my own analysis, that I often form my next question before the speaker has finished speaking.
