Unit 4223-302 promote communication in health, social care or children’s and found peoples settings (SHC 31) 1. Understand why effective communication is important in the work setting? 1.1 Identify the different reasons people communicate. We communicate with each other in order to achieve goals in life, whether physical or emotional. Communication allows us to convey information, thoughts, moods, (e.g happiness, sadness, anger), needs, choices. We have a basic need to relate to each other as human beings, and expressively express ourselves through communication in all its forms is the wain which this is achieved. Communication is the key to understanding and being understood. It is essential for our survival and is used in every aspect of our lives, from the moment are born. Talking, shouting, crying, reading, writing, seeing, listening, using body language, expressions (e.g smiling, frowning), gestures and signs are just some of the means by which we communicate. 1.2 Explain how communication affects relationships in the work setting. Within my unit (Housekeeper / Carer setting) I communicate by using communication books, handover sheets, staff information book, staff messages book, staff meetings, meetings with line mangers, emails, telephone, person (face to face). Effective communication is important as it ensures that information is clear, concise, accurate, non judgemental and informative. This reduces the possibility of mistakes being made, and ensuring appropriate care service delivery. It is important to work as a team with your colleagues, so that you all work to achieve the same outcomes and targets. 2.
