Understand specific communication needs and factors affecting them the learner can:
1. Explain the importance of meeting an individual’s communication needs
Some service users may have communication problems and may need to express how they are feeling or what they would like to do .It is important that we find the best way we can help them to do this. This can be done by writing in down on a piece of paper, sign language, TECCH cards. They can then choose which way they would like to commutate to you in their own way and you must respect what chose they have chosen. We all have the right to communicate to each other and to express our needs, if we don’t do this then we are stopping them to express their options, rights and needs. IT IS EVERYONE HUMAN RIGHT TO DO THIS.

2. Explain how own role and practice can impact on communication with an individual who has specific communication needs

As my role as a carer I must work in a person centred way and support the service user to express themselves and the freedom to do this, to help be them to be   able to do day to day tasks. By finding out how they like to communicate I can work and adapt my communication so they can understand me and I can understand them, so they can express their needs and feelings.

3. Analyse features of the environment that may help or hinder communication
Things that my hinder communication in the environment can be a lot off background noise, people all talking at once, talking too quickly, putting your hand over your mouth, talking very quietly or too fast, poor lighting or not looking at the service user when you are talking to them.
The things that can help a service user communicate are talk clearly and calmly ,sit somewhere that there is good lighting, look at them when you talk to them and sit somewhere it is quite so they can hear what you are saying.
