Unit 401 Reflective Account 1.1 As Health and Safety Manager I am responsible for providing advice to management with regard to Health and Safety legislation and new developments. I also provide this information to production and support personnel through training and informal coaching sessions. The advice and information is constantly reviewed and updated as appropriate. I use many sources to stay up to date with current developments and regulatory requirements, and also refresh my knowledge. I use the HSE website (EV15) and email updates; I also use the ACOPs and guidance documents. I hold the NEBOSH National General Certificate (EV1) and am a Technical Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (EV3) and use their website (EV14) and email updates. I am a committee member of my local safety group and regularly attend meetings and CPD events (EV12). I subscribe to and read SHP, the IIRSM magazine and the RoSPA Occupational Safety & Health and also the RoSPA website (EV16). I also extensively network with other Health and Safety professionals. I also attend regular Barbour CPD webinars (EV13). These reliable sources of information and best practice are all used when considering advice, preparing or updating procedures and the management of risk in my workplace. 1.2 Once I have identified new developments or changes in legislative requirements or best practice, I have to compare them with the status quo to determine how they will affect our organisation and operations. This is generally well in advance of the change and allows time for discussion at the minuted monthly H&S Committee meeting (EV22) which is attended by a range of employees from the Managing Director to production operatives. This discussion can identify potential problems when implementing changes which can be addressed during the process. Any identified changes and any
