Unit 320 Outcome 1 Understand the principles of supporting individuals to live at home 1) Describe how being supported to live at home can benefit an individual Supporting a customer to live at home can benefit them as it gives them more independence and choice, being able to choose what they want to eat and to have support to go out and shop for their own food helps them to feel a greater sense of normality rather than being in a home where they don’t have much choice. It will benefit the customer as they will feel that they have more control over their daily routine for example what time they would like to get up or go to bed. Customers also feel happier as they are surrounded with objects that hold memories for them even the house or street might hold a significant memory that they would like to hold onto. If they weren’t in the comfort of their own home it may make them feel lonely and isolated and less confident, this could lead them to becoming withdrawn and depressed. 2) Compare the roles of people and agencies who may be needed to support an individual to live at home There are many different services that are used to help an individual stay at home. The list below are just a few and they can help with financial assessments, advice, addressing any safeguarding issues, helping to get the correct equipment in place to live at home. Assist with the correct paperwork and also help to live and carry out daily activities.
