SHC 52/QCA L/602/2578 PROMOTE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 1 1) UNDERSTAND PRINCIPLES OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 1.1 Explain the importance of continually improving knowledge and practice It is important to ensure I continue to improve my knowledge and practice to ensure best practice and high standards are kept continuously within my work place. Since becoming a Care co-ordinator, it is my responsibility to ensure I keep up to date with all in house training such as Moving & Handling, Appraisal Supervision, Train the Trainer, Understanding Your Organisation, Health & Safety, Record Keeping, Basic First Aid etc. This is also a requirement within my contract. Policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated so it is my responsibility to ensure I am up to date with them and regularly check for any updates which I can do by checking the CQC and Corner websites. Keeping my training file updated by adding any training and achievements to it, shows how much I am improving and learning. I also have mandatory training to do each year which is added to the file. 1.2 Analyse potential barriers to professional development There are many potential barriers to professional development such as access to training. 1. Due to financial strain within the company it is not always possible to access training. In some cases it is possible for me to access the training privately which means I would have to fund it myself which I may not be able to achieve due to personal financial needs. Also it takes time to do so much to be able to identify individual’s needs and interest. 2. Another barrier is that I have to cover some shifts when staff goes sick and also covering holidays. 3. In my roll as a co-ordinator, I have to go and do spot checks,
