Turkle indicates that elementary school students’ use of computers and Internet change their way of thinking. At that point she began to study not only what computers do for us, but also what they do to us (348). Furthermore, Turkle affirms that machines are now being designed to serve as a companion and that technology does not determine changes, but it encourages us to take certain directions. Based on her experience, Turkle explains the relationship between privacy and technology. The use of technology is affecting students especially in high school and college.
Running Head: TECHNOLOGY ETHICS IN THE CLASSROOM Technology Ethics in the Classroom Rodney Mooney Grand Canyon University: EDU 225 Educational Technology The advancements of technology in the classroom call for both teachers and students to have a good understanding of the positives and negatives that come with technology in classrooms. Through technology, students can learn how to utilize computers and the internet in a productive and proper fashion. With nearly every home and classroom being equipped with computers, it is crucial that both parents and teachers have an understanding for technology and take the time to monitor children when they use this technology. Computer and Internet technology is very helpful and can be very educational if used properly, but they can also become a negative impact on individuals that misuse these helpful tools. Technology is a new tool in education that consistently changes and offers new opportunities for teacher and learning (Akcay 2008).
Teaching place value using the principles of teaching mathematics for understanding When preparing to teach mathematic lessons there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration. These factors include grade, concepts, children in your class, their prior knowledge, the relevance of your lesson, and the approach you will be using and many other important factors. Needless to say this can be a very daunting exercise for most educators, and so often it is completely avoided. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) produced a set of guidelines known as the principles and standards for school mathematics in order to assist mathematics teachers when preparing lessons for their classes. The NCTM consists of many professionals such as school administrators, teachers and professors their main goal being to use both the principles and the standards they decided on to continuously improve mathematics education in classrooms.
All of you communication with classmates and instructors is done over the computer, e-mails, and telephone. Many people lead such busy lives that furthering their education is a huge Commitment. Freire's ideas of the "banking" concept is portrayed in the use of teaching through online courses because it further enhances his argument. Freire argues that we should change the way we teach and how we are taught. In general, students come to school and are given information from their teachers. The students are given this information and are required to repeat it to their teacher in some form, whether it be a test or an assignment. Freire compares this type of system to that of a banking process.
On-campus classes make it easier to communicate one-on-one with your teacher. If you need any help or just have a question, you can speak to your teacher during class and/or speak to a student in your class. Any assignments that you get can be completed in class, on-campus, or at home, then turned in to the teacher. The books needed for your classes are owned by you, so you can make notes and highlight the text in the book if you need. It is harder to procrastinate while taking classes on-campus because you begin the homework in class (most times) and have the teacher to notice if you did or did not submit your assignments.
Computers have programs that will pronounce words and correct the word spelling. That takes away from a child learning the basics to understand how to do things on their own. Math is another issue. Kids and some adults don’t know how to do basic math problems without a calculator. On the other had we have Fredrick M. Everything that is done at home, by the parents, can be taken to school and used to promote learning for their child. Parents could help their children succeed in school by organizing study sessions, reviewing their child’s work, and keeping them physically active. Study sessions could have a positive impact on a child. Parents could organize study sessions which would require the child to study materials twice a week at the town library. These sessions at the library would provide them with a quiet environment to learn and get a better understanding of their work.
