Unit Ref R/602/2906 Communication 1.1 There are many different reasons why we communicate, to ask questions and share ideas. We express our feelings by communication and build relationships. and socialise. We also receive information and instruction’s, we share our opinions and knowledge and also emotions. It is very important to communicate in my work place as there is 6 girls in one office doing the same job and we need to know that we are all doing it the same way and the right way. We also work closely with Social Workers and Occupational Therapists so we must communicate clearly with them at all times in order to maintain our working relationship. If we don’t communicate properly at all times we might end up doing things differently which in time would cause lots of confusion. We also speak to TCES, the company that we order the equipment from on a daily basis, if we did not communicate with them then the equipment could be wrong or might not be delivered at all. 1.2 Communication in the workplace is vital. You have got to communicate with your colleagues, your managers, other services and also your clients. The ways of communication with these people are face to face, via the phone and also by email and fax. It is important that we communicate properly and clearly with our clients so that we know what they need from us and also so that they know they are getting the best possible care from us. People can become very angry and upset when there is a breakdown in communication and they cannot get the answers that they need from you. When there is not enough communication in the work place things will start to go wrong. 2.1 The best way to establish the communication and language needs of an individual is too introduce yourself and explain why you are there. If the person that you are introducing yourself to offers you a hand shake then you should respond
