Unethical Advertisement Advertisement is the best way in commercial techniques to earn money. Nowadays, the majority of the companies uses these methods to attract people’s attention and they sell their products. However, these methods have a lot of negative effects and people are influenced by these methods negatively. There are several negative effects of advertisement on people; these are reliability problem, manipulating people’s mind and social consciousness problem. The first negative effect of unethical advertising is a reliability issue. To begin with, people do not trust advertisements due to the lies about the quality of advertisements . Ads of some companies are given with resorting to lies so people cannot trust their products. Also, this situation affects other good companies since people lose trust all companies. In his article , Rust (2011) mentions media / Harris poll which shows that only %20 Americans rely on advertising usually and %13 say they never rely on it. pp3. Moreover, companies hide weak sides of their products . They deceive people for this attitude people cannot trust advertisements. For example, A lot of companies think the advertisement is more important than product quality because if their advertisements are good enough people cannot look their product quality, so people buy their products easily. To sum up, the negative impact of unethical advertisement is honesty problems. Apart from reliability issues, another negative effect of unethical advertisement is manipulating peoples mind. It is clear that children are targeted by companies because children are affected by commercial techniques very easily. However, children are generally affected by the images on the magazines or flashy advertisements on cinema and TV. This situation creates an impulsive buying.
