Understanding Environmental Health Connie Hilbmann BIO2000 The term environmental health according to the World Health Organization is Environmental health addresses all the physical, chemical, and biological factors external to a person, and all the related factors impacting behaviors. Environmental health should be a individual concern as because what happens around us in our environment can have a great impact on our physical health. The diseases and aliments of today are not the same ones we seen decades ago. There are many new diseases and health concerns in areas of cancer and genetic mutations that now effect us that were never known in the past. Many of these new diseases have been found to be linked to things in our environments such as pollutions both in air and water supplies. The more knowledge we have about these environmental factors the better health decisions we can make to ensure we live healthy and long, productive lives. We can also make changes now that will protect future generations. On a global scale the environment is a concern because of biodiversity. Without biodiversity species will begin to die off and our whole ecosystem will begin to fail. There a circle of life that has to happen for there to be a equal balance. We don't think about it and some of us could probably care less but when you see groups protesting to protect the rain forest or other issues pertaining to the environment, we instantly think they need to just stop and get on with it. However the truth of the matter is without these groups trying to protect the earth we would begin to have plants and animals die off and for us to live on planet earth we need to have a balance, plants produce oxygen and oxygen is needed to breath and live. There are many other things in our environment that we need to protect to keep the balance
