Tyler Perry, born as Emmitt Perry Jr., is a very successful man. He demonstrates my ideas of success perfectly. He has accomplished so much. He is an actor, director, screen writer, playwright, producer, author, and songwriter. Tyler Perry is known for his famous character Mabel “Madea” Simmons that he created and performs himself in drag. I look up to him, because he is an excellent example of success. He went from being homeless and living in his car, to being a very successful and talented man. That should show people that anyone can be successful, and accomplish anything you want. He has worked so hard to get where he is now, life isn’t always so easy for everyone. Some people actually have to work for what they want, and that’s exactly what Tyler Perry did. The reading from this unit that Tyler Perry connects with is “The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie. This is because in “The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian”, Junior had to leave behind his family in order to be successful, and Tyler Perry had to leave New Orleans, Louisiana (his home) and come here to Atlanta to succeed. They both had a choice, to either stay home and fail, or to leave and be something in life. Both Junior and Tyler Perry decided to be successful, and they both became successful. Tyler Perry had a hard life. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and he had three siblings. Tyler Perry’s father, Emmitt Perry Sr., had an answer to everything; to beat it out of you. Tyler Perry was so tired of being beat by his father, that he attempted suicide. He didn’t like his dad, so to distance himself from him, he changed his name from Emmitt Perry Jr., to Tyler Perry. When Tyler Perry was 10 years old, he was molested by a friend’s mother. He was also molested by three men previous to that. Tyler Perry didn’t complete high school, but he earned his GED. When he
