In our ever changing society, there is one thing that seems to remain the same; the quest for the perfect thin body. Although today there are numerous ways for one to lose weight, some are quick & easy, and some take time & hard work. Sure, most would prefer the quick & easy ways, but the question still remains: Is the quick ways really the best ways for the end results? While comparing two of the more popular fad diets, (not to mention controversial), I will also be including some of my own knowledge from my personal experience with one of these diets. Although the HCG and the Cabbage Soup diets take different approaches to weight reduction, each employ extreme measures for dangerously rapid weight loss. In comparing the low calorie intake of both diets, this will include some of the foods each diet allows, the fact that both guarantee extreme weight loss in a set short amount of time, and how each method is administered. Also the cost of the diet plans, the possible side effects& drawbacks, and the length of each plan. First, where did these diets come from? Although it is thought by many to be one of the newer fad diets, the HCG diet was developed in the 1940s by an Endocrinologist named Dr. Simeons. HCG, human chorionic gonadotropin, is a hormone produced in pregnant women. The diet disappeared in the 1950s after thought to have been the cause of the death of film star Mario Lanza. In the last few years, it has resurfaced. Then there’s the Cabbage Soup diet. This is one of the most puzzling diets today. It’s completely unclear where it came from, or who developed it. Even though there’s not much known about it, it still remains to be one of the most tried fad diets. The HCG diet plan is a very strict plan.
