My favorite would have to be the simile just because I can clearly picture in my mind that the eyes of this man can look like the dark black night sky. I don’t have a least favorite type of figurative language in the piece. I feel like she did an amazing
Staples writes, “And on late-evening constitutionals I employ what has proved to be an excellent tension-reducing measure: I whistle melodies from Beethoven and Vivaldi and the more popular classical composures” (316), he uses the whistling to present to everyone that he may not be a criminal at night. It’s an adaptive measure but it shouldn’t be necessary to go to such lengths in society, it helps to permeate the stereotypes that someone who is uneducated or uncultured is more likely a criminal. In modern society the majority of personal interactions are judged immediately by what the person looks like or how they speak. The shallow surface interactions can lead to those racial tensions or mistaken situations of fear that any person can be forced to
Blatantly, Alfred Hitchcock introduces his movie with a shot of cawing birds, establishing suspense, and then drops the audience on their rears, stranded with a few shots of squawking birds. There is lack of a pertinent element in the film that runs amuck in the story, and this element is foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is one of the various strengths in Du Maurier’s The Birds and it is by far the most effective, and so one can elaborate to the conclusion that without a plethora of clues, the reader is numb to arising suspense. Another opportunity given to Hitchcock was the option of paralleling his movie to the genius of the story, because without taking some material from the author, his version is almost a different species and thus the lack of suspense. Furthermore, Daphne Du Maurier stresses important details so the suspense is evident.
When I go on trips I always love the ride and the sites, boarding the plane, or whatever the case may be, but I also think it’s rewarding when you arrive at your destination. Jones wants to take the journey slowly and enjoy it, but Muggleton keeps speeding through the countries. She can’t really do much about it because he is the driver and it’s pretty pointless to argue with him. “Africa’s most cosmopolitan capital, an elegant place of broad boulevards and public squares and grand cornices fronting the sea, all more alluring for having aged and frayed and grown a bit seedy and dangerous. It’s famous for its nightlife, its French-influenced cuisine, its hot clubs where some of the best musicians on the continent play some of the best pop in the world.
Randall Jennings Buchanan ENGL A19 October 16, 2013 How to Take Care of Scaredy Cats Fall is my favorite of all the seasons for several reasons. The way the temperature drops a few degrees and allows us to wear jeans, but not be too hot. I love being able to see the changing colors of all the leaves and the way the beautiful landscapes look with all the colors on top. I love the fact that after my summer of working 70 to 80 hours a week, with only a few days off, I am able to finally take it easy and spend time with my wife and children. But most of all I love that around the end of September there are all kinds of haunted mazes and such opening up for business.
Mystery Beers were the drink special of the night. I like Mystery Beer night, because it’s the easiest portal into the land of table banter. That’s what I love most about waitressing: table banter. The universe usually gifts some launching pad of mutual conversation: the heavy rain last night or Ryan Lochte or the new pizza special. But especially, Mystery Beer.
Poetry Essay Even though there are marvelous novels and short stories circulating the world, poetry is the best form of written expression because there are many interpretations and meanings. Although people will read We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks and interpret the poem from their viewpoint, there are other ways to read the poem because there are many viewpoints. An example would be, “Jazz June.” (9). When reading “Jazz June,” it can be interpreted as the music genre jazz or could mean raping women at night. Depending on the way you read the poem or line depends on the way the poem is interpreted by one.
The drinks are delicious on some occasions. They might have a little too much alcohol, but still good. If unlucky enough to taste the salt water well its nasty and salty. In conclusion Cancun is a fun place with beauty and a great night life. No matter what is desired whether it is to relax by the pool or white sand beach with a mojito or if it’s go clubbing at night with friends and family.
Pine Ridge Players to perform Tartuffe! By Lizzy Parsons Special to the Beacon Remember being little and having your favorite Dr. Seuss stories read to you at night? There were hypocrites, liars, funny little men, and creatures of all sizes. Well, Tartuffe brings that to life, minus all of the silly creatures. “Tartuffe reminds me of a grown up version of a Dr. Seuss book.” says Casey McCall, who plays Mariane, “It really is a great Show, and I think that people will enjoy it a lot.” The audience is in for quite the surprise when they see this show.
The Great Gatsby: “I began to like New York, the racy, adventurous feel of it at night, and the satisfaction that the constant flicker of men and women and machines gives to the restless eye. I liked to walk up Fifth Avenue and pick out romantic women from the crowd and imagine that in a few minutes I was going to enter into their lives, and no one would ever know or disapprove. Sometimes, in my mind, I followed them to their apartments on the corners of hidden streets, and they turned and smiled back tat me before they faded through a door into warm darkness. At the enchanted metropolitan twilight I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in other-poor young clerks who loitered in front of windows waiting until it was time for a solitary restaurant dinner-young clerks in the dusk, wasting the most poignant moments of night and life.”
