Twenty 20 Cricket in London Olympics Over the years there has been an issue that why twenty 20 cricket should be an Olympic sport? It is fun and fast, it is played in countries that have not traditionally excelled in the Olympics. London also has the venues (The Oval, Lords) to be able to host a cricket tournament at the same time as the main sports. Twenty 20 cricket is the new structure of cricket, which was initially introduced in United Kingdom for inter- county professional competition by Wales and England Cricket board in the year 2003. First authorized Twenty20 cricket matches were played in the year 2003 on 13th June between the varieties of the English counties. Internationally, Twenty 20 cricket is played since year 2005. Till date sixteen countries have played. The twenty20 cricket game is completed in approximately two and the half hour with the every innings that lasts near around in 75 minutes, therefore bringing sport closer to span of time of the other famous team games such as football or hockey. (Yadav, par. 1) Cricket was last played in the Olympics in 1900 when Great Britain beat France. The French team consisted of Britons living in Paris, reportedly mostly members of the British Embassy. London Assembly Member Murad Qureshi, launched an online petition, which aims to lobby the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Cricket Conference (ICC) and London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to include an international Twenty 20 cricket competition as part of the 2012 Olympic Games. (Cross, Par. 1) London is the historic home of cricket, a sport which espouses the Olympic ideal of fair play through the “spirit of the game”. Hosting the Olympic Games in 2012 provides London an ideal opportunity to showcase cricket to a much wider global audience and, in return, to increase interest the Olympic Games amongst nations
