SMILIARATIES OF TURKEY AND GREECE Turkey and Greece… The relationship between these two countries dates back to 14th century. These two nations lived together on the same land about 400 years under the reign of Ottoman Empire until 1821. As a consequence of that living together that much time, the two nations have a lot in common. That’s why; Turkey and Greece can be viewed as very similar countries. One of the most and notable similarity is the history that we share. For example, one in Turkey can talk about the glorious “Conquest of the city of Istanbul”, in like manner; one in Greece talks about the “fall of the city of Istanbul”. Perhaps, on that account; not only in Greece there is small group of people who hates Turks but also in Turkey there is a limited group of people who hates Greeks. Another big similarity will be the importance that we give to the temples, the churches and the mosques in Turkey. Today, one of the most important touristic symbols of Turkey might be considered as Ayasofya. Correspondingly, Ayasofya is also very important and even considered as a divine place for Greeks. In addition to Ayasofya, the antic Greek city Efes which is located in western side of Turkey is not only important for Turkey but also for Greece. Another huge similarity can be the similarity of food and beverages. For instance, Turkish coffee which is called as Greek coffee in Greece is the almost same thing that people both in Greece and Turkey are enjoying. Similar to Turkish coffee, Greek coffee is also prepared and served nearly the same way. In a typical coffee pot, the coffee and desired amount of sugar stirred until all coffee sinks and all sugar is dissolved. Just as the coffee comes to the boil, the pot is removed from the heat.
