In Document 11, French artist Régnier engraved a scene entitled Greece Sacrificed of a Turkish cavalry regiment charging toward a group of unarmed, unresisting Greeks clinging to a cross. In this engraving, the Greeks are clearly depicted as victims to the oppressive Turks. Régnier seems to have created the engraving as propaganda to garner support in European
As every great Empire declines and falls, the intrusive Turks were the main reason why several strong and stable civilizations were torn apart. The impact of Turkic invasions on the Byzantine and Islamic worlds were similar because they were the main cause of the decline of these two major empires by conquering the lands as well as the control of the regions they invaded, also bringing with them their Sunni religion the Turkish invasions greatly impacted the religion of the Byzantine and Abbasid Empires, however, the invasions had overall more positive effects on the Islamic world while they negatively effected the Byzantine Empire. The Turkish invasions conquered the lands of both the Byzantine and Abbasid Empires, which eventually led to the decline and fall of the entire Empire as a whole. In 945, the Abbasid Empire began to decline as it was invaded by the Buyids of Persia who were later replaced by the Seljuk Turks. For the next two centuries the Turkish military leaders ruled over the parts of the empire it conquered until it was eventually no longer the Abbasid Empire.

In the pamphlet “A Word About Freedom” Greeks are told to resist the Ottomans, hence seek liberty because the Turks are imposing injustice (Doc6). Claude Etienne Savary, a French scholar of both Greek and Arabic stated he “…would wish to excite all of Europe to combine against these Turks who have crushed the Greek nation.” He also held the biased opinion that the Ottomans had done the Greeks wrong and Greeks deserve their opinion (Doc3). Alexander Mavrocordato in the “Declaration to the Christian Powers” says that “in a word humanity, religious interest all plead in their favor.” He meant the Greeks in this statement. He was another person who held the belief that the strong determined Greeks should have liberty (Doc10). With all these notions for Greek independence Greeks are often cited as big benefactors in Europe’s development.
