Each individual has his or her own perception of what beauty really is. Many will say that it is how a person is on the inside. Some will argue that true beauty is how you feel and that there is something called inner beauty, which is more appealing than physical beauty. It is the way that you are accepted in society and also by your family. These are only a few opinions of the endless list of definitions for beauty. While there is no right or wrong answer and many uncertainties, a lot of emphasis has been placed on the one word we call beauty, especially in this generation. “Beauty is really the inside of a person. It’s how they act and treat a person. It is who they really are,” says Sarah Cintron, a senior. “True beauty is the inside of a person and their personality,” says Robert Ramos, a freshman. Obtaining beauty is a constant struggle that people have with themselves. When one seems to lose this perpetual war with themselves and their bodies, they often turn to plastic surgery or sometimes natural ways to make themselves look better in their eyes and the in the sight of their beholders. Women endure intensive surgeries such as liposuction, breast enhancements, reconstructive surgeries and numerous others. Even though there are large percentages of women getting these cosmetic surgeries, they are not alone. Men are also getting these procedures done to improve their physique. Among the top cosmetic surgeries performed on men in 2003, reduction of gynecomastia, or abnormally large male breasts, ranked fourth. Other surgeries include the facelift, pectoral and calf implants, to make them look huge and rock hard without going to the gym, and the ever-popular penis lengthening.
