Young negro is aquised of having raped white lady, miss Mayella Ewell. The trial took place yesterday at a court in Maycomb. People from everywhere in the country attended the trial including some foreigners, the courtroom was full. In charge of this case was Mr. Judge Taylor who had to make a decision before the end of the day. Mr.Tate was the first testimony and said that he was leaving his office when Mr. Ewell came in and said a Negro raped his daughter. He found mayella badly beaten and when he asked her who did it, she said it was Tom Robinson. He brought tom to her and she identified him as the one. In addition, Atticus made it very clear that no one called the doctor. Bob Ewell, father of Mayella was next to speak. He explained that he was coming in from the woods before sundown, when he got to the fence and heard Mayella screaming. The room looked like there had been a fight there. He saw that it was Tom, then he ran inside. He also didn't contact a doctor. It was found out that he Bob literate and also that he is left-handed. He completely agreed with Mr. Tates description of the injuries. Many bruises, neck injuries, and a right black eye. Mayella then said that she was sitting on the front porch doing nothing and was supposed to chop up an old chiffarobe. She wasn't feeling very strong so she asked Tom to do it for her. She said she would pay him a nickel and went inside the house to get it for him. She turned around and he was on her. Grabbed her around her neck and repeatedly hit her. The next thing that she remembered was Mr. Ewell standing over her saying 'who done it before she fainted. She did everything she could to avoid answering questions throughout the trial. Atticus asked her if she loved her father and if he was easy to get along with. Mayella said yes except, that's when Atticus finished her sentence. He said 'except when he's
