To summarize what this article talked about it was a study done on the effects of soil degradation and the effects on the vegetation in areas around watering points and normal grazing lands. The study showed that in these ecosystems the overgrazing reduced the ecosystem diversity of plants in poor soils. It also talked about how overgrazing around certain areas can not only destroy the soil but it can also cause the destruction of certain types of species. Overgrazing differs in all areas of the world but it still has a common problem which is that when there is overgrazing no matter what type of environment you are in that environment will be
Two environmental problems caused by extensive plastic bag use are the chemicals that make the plastic bag and the way we dispose of them. Plastic bags are very dangerous to the environment. The plastic bag is made of toxic chemicals like xylene, ethylene oxide and benzene. Plastic bags are non-biodegradable which means these toxic harmful chemicals are putting people and the environment at risk. Because people don't dispose of the plastic bags properly they get into water ways which eventually affect the see life as well as all other animals and living organisms including plants.
2. Provide one action we as humans engage in that leads to the extinction of each of these components. Action affecting Lichens = Lichens need nutrients from the air and water to grow, but humans pollute water with chemicals and air with smoke which can effects there growth. Action affecting Trees = Humans are cutting down trees which is leading them to extinction. Action affecting Flowers = Humans are destroying flowers and plants by destroying the land their on by building buildings and growing crops.
Ventilation in the slums is inadequate owing to the hopelessly unplanned nature of these areas.” (Doc. 5) Many poor city dwellers were forced to live in dark, filthy, overcrowded slums. There were many problems such as overuse of natural resources and pollution to not only the air but also the water. As of air, air, smoke had blackened the air. And water was being contaminated.
Sustainability is the development of the quality of life that does not affect any lasting damage to the environment. Due to population increase, it then applies large amounts of pressure on the land to be more productive. However this then leads to over-cultivation and over-irrigation. As an effect of lack of farming land, over cultivation is a large problem. It can reduce soil fertility and damage the overall structure of the soil.
West Virginia Chemical Spill Effecting Our Environment Industrialization has greatly impacted our Earth. In the article Federal Grand Jury Investigates West Virginia Chemical Spill, the authors, Drew Griffin and David Fitzpatrick, emphasize the damage the chemical spill did to our planet. Many people were left with no water to use and the environment was greatly damaged by the spill. Chemical plants allow our society to develop some service such as water, electricity or disposal services. Conversely, Chemical plants can contaminate the pure water or create harmful diseases to humans and the Earth.
They are creating problems to create a more sustainable society but it can be corrected. Over-cultivation is cultivating repeatedly and growing crop faster than the soil can regenerate, and this cost the quality and productivity of the soil. The first step in over-cultivation is plowing to control
In this process acidic water flows over and through the ground and affects varieties of plants and animals. The water has become too acidic, and this creates a problem to the environment because all living things depend on water. Dry deposition is also a form of acid deposition, but refers to acidic gases and particles. “Half the acidity in the atmosphere falls back to earth through dry deposition”. The wind blows these acidic gases into building, cars, homes and trees.
A small population must cover a large area because of the constant search for food. Farming has allowed civilizations to live more condensed very comfortably. Farming, in my opinion, is one of the smartest decisions in human history. Humans have been able to advance in technology for quicker because of it. The increasing population of the Earth can be supported because more people can live in a smaller
I have learned that the use of toxic chemicals during the fracking process and the occurring release of toxic chemicals and radioactive materials during well processing is bad for the environment. Such as, Naphthalene, Xylene, Toluene, Methylbenzene, and Formaldehyde, are all known or suspected to be human carcinogens (Schmidt). Also Hydraulic fracking hurts the environment by the contaminating the water wells, and springs, in which many humans and animals drink from. Another environment impact of hydraulic fracturing is air pollutions. Finally the way fracking impacted animal and human health.
