Assignment No. 2 Los Angeles is a city that is known for its film industry and portrays an image of success. This picture in today's world is supported by the amount of famous people who live there and who started their career there. John Fante shows different sides of Los Angeles in his novel Ask the Dust. I would argue that in this excerpt of Ask the Dust John Fante's character Arturo Bandini is very fascinated with the city of Los Angeles and is hoping for success and fame, not giving up on his dreams, but will still not find fulfilled happiness or inspiration in the city.
An academic periodical titled “The Franchises” sheds light on the subject giving readers a different view of the New Jersey controversy. The article takes the other side of the argument in saying the Jersey Shore actually contributes to growth in popular culture, which is actually a good thing for the state of New Jersey. The article writes that “the MTV show has transcended pop culture because everyone knows what it is.” (“The Franchises,” p. 3) This gives New Jersey a boost in recognition for being the home where a different form of popular culture was created. MTV also responded to the controversy by stating in a press release, “The Italian-American cast takes pride in their ethnicity. We understand that this show is not intended for every audience and depicts just one aspect of youth culture."
It was a movement like any other artistic movement, not something intentionally made to be a “movement”, but a tangible gesture towards national contribution. One factor that contributed the rise of the movement was the importance of New York after the opening up of the Hudson River and the Erie Canal as the main water route between the Middle East and the east Coast. Another factor was America’s own desire to rejoice and record its untapped natural wonders. Disneyland and Six flags are the most common places families would like to go to, because both places offer a variety of fun activities. California has both places so most families on the west coast like to go there. There are different and similar aspects between Disneyland and Six flags. First Disneyland is located in the middle of Orange County sprawl enabling locals to get there more quickly. Disney calls its place the Disney’s California Adventure; the rides are designed for young kids to enjoy.
