Abstract Developed in the 1970s, the ICD-9-CM code set no longer fits with our current healthcare system needs. ICD-9-CM is currently being used for many more purposes than when it was originally intended and it is no longer fitting for our 21st century health information needs. Continuing to rely on this outdated and imprecise platform adversely affects the value of healthcare data. Although, a number of years ago most industrialized countries have moved to ICD-10 platform, the US is just beginning this transition with a final compliance date of October 1, 2015. That is if it isn’t once again pushed back or just gotten rid of entirely.
Employers knowingly employ hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants each year on farms, in restaurants, as domestic help, and in labor-intensive jobs. Without these workers some industries could not survive. Undocumented workers fill a need in this country and will work for wages that most Americans will not (“Employment protection policies and the undocumented worker: a balancing of competing interests,” 2005). Conclusion In conclusion, our current immigration laws are tearing families apart. Immigration reform is needed, but there is not a one size fits all solution.
Executive Summary for Transformational Leaders Tamekia Smith, Annetta Brent, Gloria Sample, and Eddie Brown LDR/300 July 2, 2015 Andre' D. Samuel, DM Executive Summary For Transformational Leaders “The rate of changes in organizations has been increased by a diversity of external forces such as intensified global competition, the increases in technology, reduced revenues and customer dissatisfaction”(Attaran, 2004). “These changes have led to a rise in downsizing, restructuring, reorganization, mergers and acquisitions. Nevertheless, most entrepreneurs’ efforts in changing organizations have failed to achieve the expected outcomes in terms of revenue growth, cost reduction, productivity and employees’ commitment” (Marks, 2006). “Although the failure of organizational changes is attributed by several various elements, Seo et al (2012) suggested that the human factor, particularly leaders, plays the most significant role in delivering the effectiveness of organizational change. Consequently, it is necessary to investigate leadership theories and how effectively it may result in effective organizational change”.
With technology that runs the life’s of millions, and the constant need to obtain anything and everything without a price, Lao-Tzu would hang his head in shock at the life we have grown so quick to know. There are places in the government and in the life of today that Lao-Tzu would think inadequate for living; however, we must look at what in our life meets his guidelines as well. Modern American society is not perfect. The ways of the world have changed since 6th century BC and life has become much more complicated all the while striving to make things simpler. The way technology has driven the last half of a century has changed life astronomically.
Final Project Ronald R. Espenschied ETH/125 - Cultural Diversity January 26, 2014 Sisay Teketele Final Project The United States is truly a “melting pot”, there are many people of many different races and many different cultures with many different beliefs that causes the melting to be a slow process. There has been a lot of low points in our history and there are probably still many more to come but as a whole there have been a lot more high points. It is these high points that have gotten us as far as we have come but we are still only part of the way to a totally diversely tolerant society. What still needs to be learned is that although people may be different from one another each and every one of them has something valuable
8 The Board wants to increase the number of judges, psychiatrists and psychologists it has as members to cope with its increasing workload but it is finding it difficult to find suitable candidates. We found that the Board is not always making the best use of its existing membership. In the 12 months to 30 September 2007, 22 of its existing members contributed fewer than the minimum number of days set out in the Board’s guidance. Members told us that some are not happy with the level of remuneration offered; the location of some hearings; the increasing risk of hearings being cancelled at short notice resulting in nugatory work; and the receipt of incomplete or late information for the dossiers.6 9 We found that the membership of the Board does not reflect the current structure of society in England and Wales. While the composition of the membership is equally balanced between the sexes, the average age of members is currently 507 and despite efforts by the Ministry of Justice to recruit more members from the ethnic minorities only four current members describe themselves as being
Indeed, FEMA’s efforts far exceeded any previous operation in the agency’s history” (Committee, 2006). That being said these efforts were still criticized simply because they weren’t enough. The plans put in place before Katrina’s landfall were seemingly all that planners could do for the time they had. The preparation was massive, preparing for shortages of all kinds and evacuations of personnel in harms
With this said, Buchanan believes that by 2050 there will be three times the population that there was in the ‘60s – 420 million. Immigration as intimidating as it may sound does not pose a threat to a country that has been inhabited by people all over the world long ago before the Immigration Act was passed in 1965. The US has a long history of rich culture and diversity, and even though Buchanan emphasizes that the US is losing its culture, it has in fact been enriching it for a very long time. As words are replaced in every-day vocabulary, so are the customs and the way of living of a population. It is also irrelevant whether the size of the population increments or not as long as old- day traditions are preserved.
John Doe Anita Hames Ap Language April 3, 2013 The Lacking Precision in the English Language Every day billions of conversations are held and trillions of words are spoken to one another. We use a lot of the same words that have been used for centuries. But, as time continues the meaning of these words change, become irrelevant, or lose the precision of their meaning. One could conclude that using the same words every day and so frequently we’ve become very familiar with them; they lose their meaning or their meaning changes. For example in Geoffrey Nunberg’s essay “How Much Wallop Can a Simple Word Pack,” he talks about the words “terror” and “terrorism” and how with time the words’ meanings have changed since their origin (Source 1).
It is an overburdened system, confusing for the lay person, ineffective and costly. Part of the reason for this is the lack of comprehensive immigration reform for over 30 years. The last major piece of legislation passed was the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act. It enacted many of the employment laws the public is familiar with now, introduced the I-9 (which is required for lawful employment), and granted amnesty for those who had been in the country prior to 1982. Another major reform is far overdue.
