Transitions and Challenges in Adulthood One's physical, cognitive and social-emotional development must be examined regards to early and middle childhood modification. The three stages of child development focus on early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence regards to transition and developmental processes. In addition, major challenges, including health and fitness, and expertise and creativity must continue to be analyzed through clinical practice and further research (Berk, 2010). Developmental processes One's first year of life is extremely critical for healthy advancement, including his physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development (Berk, 2010). The fact is when a child begins to develop; the influences around him will determine his readiness and later his success or failure in his lifespan. Emotional regulation, attachment, language development, and motor skills are the first components of early-childhood learning. Therefore, these major milestones can result in delay if stressors and/or negative risk factors exist. In addition, stressors affect the brain in a way where a child's physical, cognitive, and/or social-emotional growth is compromised (Brumbach, Figueredo, & Ellis, 2009). Evidently, individuals will experience milestones leading to adulthood; during this time, various influences will prepare him for his future duties and/or objectives during the rest of his lifespan (Berk, 2010). Physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development An individual’s physical development improves throughout his childhood and adolescence. Berk (2010) asserts one's body is enabled to grow stronger and/or larger, and as sensory systems gather information, a person's coordination will improve (p. 432).
