Traffic in Vietnam

It is easy to see that the traffic in Vietnam is having such a serious problem and causing so many fatalities increasingly. According to Miles Walker, founder of New Asian Values for the 21st Century, who wrote the article “The streets of Vietnam – A Fatality every 45 minutes” published in Siam Regional Review, there are mainly three solutions must be done to solve this problem. This essay will respond to the writer and discuss whether or not these are three practical ideas to do with the traffic issue in Vietnam. Walker mentions that many accidents lead to fatality are due to violated traffic laws. His first argument is to reduce the number of car using by increasing tax fee for petrol and that may help to fund for the infrastructure. Secondly, Walker claims that the license laws should be more rigid and the minimum driving age must be twenty. His final suggestion is to have more fee-charging parking lots which may expand the sidewalk somehow. Walker's first argument seems the most possible idea. It not only may solve the traffic problem but also the infrastructure - which actually will improve the traffic condition later. Furthermore, it will appeal the citizen to use other public transportations more regularly because it is less expensive, and this way definitely will help to save the environment. Another interesting reason is that even though people have to spend more money for the petrol, after all that money will be invested in infrastructure. Obviously, once the traffic condition is improved, the traffic jams will not happen anymore and people will be able to stop worrying about how much petrol they waste when they remain being stuck in a crowd for a very long time during the rush hour every day. At least, they will satisfy that their money is finally worth spending for. Next, the writer's suggestion to have more fee-charging parking lots is not
