Richard H. Holmes II Week 2 You Decide Intro to Policing In the traditional model of policing, there was a pretty direct way that things would happen. It can almost be called a tradition. When an officer was patrolling, he or she would receive a call from dispatch notifying of a crime that had occurred. The responding officer would write a report corresponding to all that occurred during their response to the call- this report would be given to a detective who would in turn investigate the crime. The officer would return to patrol in wait for another call to be dispatched for another case/crime. In the traditional model of policing, officers did not have much in the way of developing relationships with the communities nor the people of the city that they patrolled. Officers would end up at any of the various places throughout the city on any day. There was no attempt at this time to prevent crimes from happening. Pp166 Policing America 6th Edition In an organization, the largest resistance to change usually comes from the people within the organization who have been there the longest. This group of people has usually been doing their work for a certain way for a long period of time. They have grown accustomed to these ways of working and change poses a serious threat to the only way they know how to work. In order to overcome this resistance, I would have to speak with my more tenured employees. My duty would be to properly train them in such a way as to increase their trust in the new program. Their prior expertise would have to be emphasized in order to let them know that they are not being replaced, and are a very key part of our program.
