Traditions and Festivals of India After observing the reading material many thoughts came to mind. A lot of ideas of their cultural standards came across as absurd compared to what we in America serve as a Christian. People of India have certain ways of praise and pleasing the gods, their traditions and values are said make them feel pure and giving to the gods. Same idea as we as a Christian, the people of India have more strenuous ideas as far as praising goes. We as American’s go to church, read the good book and that’s all it takes, and on top that it’s only 2 designated days out of the week we server our deities per say. The people of India serve their deities every day all day. Some ideas stood out to me in the reading of their traditions such as: bathing, braahmi muhurtham, festoon, and ringing the bell. There are many sacred rivers in India, like the Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, the holiest is the Ganga, said to be a goddess. The river is also mentioned earliest Hindu scriptures. The people of India believed that being baptized in holy water of the Ganga they would be rid of all their sins. This is same concept that Christianity accepts into their practices so I thoughts this was an interesting festival. Also, the people will lay in their brothers/sisters/kin folk ashes in the Ganga to symbolize that they will be safe in heaven. The people take home holy water in pots from the Ganga. I thought this was an interesting ritual in the Ganga River, much like the baptisms Jesus performed in the holy land of Christians. It seems that we carry the same rituals and values in some ways but different, the people of India believe that water purity is a cleanse from the gods to get to heaven, and we as Christians perform the same rituals and have same beliefs. I felt this was an interesting parallel. The time 90 minutes prior to sunrise is called Braahmi
