His findings included a fractured skull and thighbone that were hacked in half, along with a few axes, spears, clubs and shields, which he says “indicate that the 2,000-year-old site was the scene of a major battle.” These findings date to the birth of Jesus, and may have involved some religious sacrifices. “There’s a religious dimension,” said Dr. Holst, due to his findings of goat skulls and ceramic pots, suggesting that a food offering might have occurred. Dr. Holst and his team’s findings of some destructed bones that ended up in the lake, either during or after this epic battle that took place, bring up some serious questions; like how exactly did this battle start, what was it about, and who were these warriors that they discovered? What they do know is that all these warriors found were of male gender and ranged from teenagers to men in their 50’s. Over the years they have uncovered about 240 bodies, plus numerous weapons and artifacts.
This is evident when Bulwer Lytton, author of ‘The last days of Pompeii’ had removed a skull he had discovered from Pompeii as a souvenir. Discussion between the display of bodies in Pompeii and Herculaneum has also increased due to the salting of certain sites within both Pompeii and Herculaneum. In 1768 a tableaux had been created from the remains of Pompeii aiming to fool an Austrian Emperor into believing in an apparent discovery made by archaeologists at the time. This is also seen in more recent displays such as in the House of Menander where Amedeo Maiuri between the years of 1920-1930 had constructed imaginative scenarios by salting the scene with evidence. However Estelle Lazer then rectifies this when she studies remains found within the area and discovers that the bones placed within the scene do not belong together.
Lindow Man Writing Task Explain what the archaeological and scientific examinations reveal about the life and death of Lindow Man. Both archaeological and scientific examinations have been incredibly useful in investigations surrounding the life and death of Lindow II, a body found in a peat bog in England in 1984. Both visual and scientific techniques as well as the historical knowledge of the Celtic festival of Beltain have helped to reveal Lindow Man’s story. A close, visual examination of Lindow Man’s body provided basic facts about his physical appearance. It was deduced through this examination that the bog body was a 25-30yr old, well-built and well groomed male with brown facial hair and a beard.
The evidence that the pathologist showed the jury and audience gave insight to the Jury. He said that the tissue found had a scar that was on Cora’s body. 5) What do modern forensic scientists find when they examine samples of the remains. They found out that the remains did not match the DNA of Cora’s family, and that it wasn’t even the same sex as her, It was a males DNA. 6) What other evidence linked Crippen to the remains in the cellar?
This also told him that the site in which he died had changed before he was found. The ice had melted at least once and refroze. Otzi would have floated in the water along with his belongings to new positions. This scientist states Otzi’s ribs were damaged from the pressure of the ice. The evidence to back this up is that samples of food from Otzi’s body were tested for pollen.
As for their religious activities, they buried their dead with tools, weapons and food. Animal bones were found in the burial sites. What this really indicates is that Neanderthals believed that their dead were moving on to a next life. Neanderthals must have wanted to make sure that their loved ones who have died have his/her tools and equipments that he need for his next life. Also there were often carefully arranged bear skulls that suggested some worship rite.
Throughout the documentary we can see lots of footage of officials burying the bodies of the Ebola victim. Those bodies were particularly focused on. Meanwhile there is a scene when a burial man recalled the public awareness of hygiene. He said that he had tried to stop a man from getting into an Ebola-infected room but failed. Then he was about to be buried by the man.
on mount olympus‘Bad Day on Mount Olympus’ Marilyn Todd, author of Bad Day on Mount Olympus, retells the classic short story including modern day language to provide an alternative telling to portray the lives of the gods and immortals of the Greek and Roman age. Starting with The Story of Io a mythological tale in which Jupiter, king of the gods, is unfaithful to wife Juno with a maiden named Io. The story tells of how Jupiter tries to deceive his wife by disguising the river nymph as a cow meaning she can blend amongst a herd. This basic principal of the story is upheld in many versions I have come across along with the fact that Juno is not easily fooled and takes the cow as a gift to be guarded, but, when looking at other accounts there seemed to be one outstanding alteration; “In order to hide his intentions from Juno, Jupiter wrapped Earth in a dark, thick cloud that seemed to turn day to night” found in The mythology of the Night Sky by David Falkner. This varies from the classical tale; however, it reminds us of the fact that Jupiter had great power with responsibility as King of all Gods but still shares human qualities such as emotions of love, lust and unfaithfulness.
The purpose of this paper is to outline the findings of the murderers of Ashley Smith and bring her killers to face justice. In this report, I will reflect on how the case was investigated and how I feel that it was handled. I will give a brief synopsis and then advise on the findings. On November3, 2000 two truck drivers found the body of Ashley Nicole Smith, apparently stabbed to death, in a wooded area behind a Pizza Hut in Howard County, Maryland. To see if any information from anyone else would be brought forward, a tip line was established and implemented with an eight thousand dollar reward.
Burger (n.d.), “The term Machu that precedes Picchu means old and was used by locals to differentiate it from the small hill behind it called Huayna Picchu, which means young” (p. 5) Machu Picchu was home for royal blood, servants, farmers, and care givers when not many people were around in the winter. The Inca’s believed that they are deities. Their believe was that Wiracocha the creator and Inti the sun God told them to conquer the people from every corner of the world. On Machu Picchu there is a sacred place on the mountain where they pray to the Sun god. They call this place “Intihuatana stone.” The people believed the stones pointed directly at the sun this during the winter season, and this is why there is no shadow that is cast on any stone in this sacred place.
