THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE Mårtensson gives a brilliant metaphor when he represents a thing as complex as feelings so simply by comparing them with waves. Waves are a very good representation of emotion and feelings as they are both an unstoppable force of nature something that we cannot hope to stop. Nonetheless, he says, we can choose which emotion do we want to follow and show or express. Some strong emotions could have definite negative effects in our relationships with other people, and by avoiding these and choosing the ones that don’t have harmful or damaging results on our position in a conversation or generally in society. It is a very important question, therefore, to see whether we should try and control our raw feelings and emotions or we should avoid doing this. Our feelings and emotions are what define us. They come naturally to us, we don’t need to think or consider anything whatsoever. They form an essential part of our instinct and being without which we cannot make any decisions. Different people have different opinions and feelings about everything and that is what makes everyone unique. But we can rarely express this natural emotion as it could be considered unsuitable in the modern society. For example, during a dinner party if one of the dishes includes oysters, there would different reactions to it. Oysters may repulse many people but a lot of people consider them to be a delicacy.
