The Ewells' plan was revealed transparently. In Mayella's testimony, Atticus asked her a series of questions like why no one came to help her, especially her seven siblings when she had claimed to have hollered, or whether or not Bob had beaten her up. All Mayella did was to remain silent, because their spurious story didn't add up after all and she didn't know how to answer those questions. The facts were clearly showed: no one had beaten her up but her own father. So when they announced the verdict, I was so shocked that I was nearly knocked of the chair.
Chantal’s mother thinks if you do all the right things, nothing bad will happen. In words, she tried to starve herself from foods she loved such as cake. As said, in the beginning, Chantal’s point of view explains how her mom really hates cake, stating that it was nothing but fat and sugar. 4. I think that Chantal’s mom thinks that teenagers are lazy and energetic.
The young man began to say how stupid Miss Brill’s fur ermine is and how she should just stay home because no one wants to see her face or wants her around. The young lady just laughs. Miss Brill was so hurt that she went home right away and did not stop at the bakery like she does every Sunday to get her piece of cake. She really enjoys the bakery because it she sometimes gets a surprise, an almond a special treat, in her slice of cake. When she gets home she takes off the fur ermine and puts it back in her box, but as she is walking away she thinks that she hears something crying.
Deep down Wes always knew the truth about Frank’s crimes, “And my father knew he was guilty”. Regardless of his knowledge of the situation Wes was still prepared to turn a blind eye to it and not investigate to keep loyalty towards his brother. “He’ll have to meet his punishment in the hereafter. “I won’t do anything to arrange it in this life.” When Wes does decide to lock up Frank for his crimes, he still kept his loyalty towards his brother and did not send him to jail; instead he locked Frank up in the basement of the Wes’ family home. Throughout the novel Julian is seen as loyal to Frank the whole time and doesn’t care about Frank’s actions.
I do not get why they have done this most people have said that it is because he is a black man and that in his testimony he said he felt sorry for her (Mayella.) I feel as though that what everybody is saying is true. But it shouldn’t be like that, if he isn’t guilty then he shouldn’t be convicted it is just wrong, very, very wrong. They need to sort something out now, because Tom Robinson is about to be executed for no reason, this is cruel and in humane. Can’t anybody do anything about it, we are talking about an innocent young man who is crippled about to be executed for nothing.
Joe and Logan had a big influence on how Janie could not trust Tea Cake at first. She showed Tea Cake she had some problems by saying, “It’s all right tuh come teach me, but don’t come tuh cheat me.”(pg.96) She was showing Tea Cake that she wasn’t a rookie in the relationship game. If Tea Cake was going to try and make a fool out of Janie she wasn’t going to let that happen. Tea Cake coming along really didn’t have a effect on her self-identity at first. Tea Cake did everything differently than Joe.
Colby's friends had been warning him for some time that they did not like the way Colby had been behaving. But after Colby did something, his friends decided that he should be hanged. They tried to rationalize their decision by saying that they, ".... had a perfect moral right to do so because he was our friend, belonged to us in various important senses, and he had after all gone too far." (Barthelme, 1973, pg. 194) His friends would not listen to Colby's argument that, "Going too far was something everybody did sometimes."
The emotions were a rollercoaster. Mrs. Sommers lived in a pretty decent life, but after having kids she became more attentive to how she should spend her money and forgot about taking care of herself. When a decent sum of money showed up in front of Mrs. Sommers she felt really excited and happy. She immediately thought about what things to buy for her children that she even forgot to eat. She went to the department store she found a pair of silk stockings that suited her.
'Do you smell that, Lulu? Mama said it's the earth back to work after the rain,’ announced Persephone, her tiny hand holding Leuce's gently swinging back and forth, back and forth. In the other a gold strand pulling a small wooden cart Hades fashioned for her, full of freshly picked flowers; blood red poppies, lilac crocus and glorious white lilies. 'Remember now, Persephone, we don't want to get mother angry by ruining our dresses. We'll play a little then back home it is... with no fuss whatsoever.'
It was great, is what I told you, we were at a ice rink and there were these funny clowns giving us free lollipops since I was the birthday girl. You see, they didn’t want Hannah or Kayla to get any, but I convinced Robby at the counter to bring us even more sweets! It was a treat, especially after Hannah Montana came to sing to me and then sign my shoes! My own shoes that were so precious, my mom wouldn’t let me bring them to school. Oh if only, but that was a lie.
