The basic atmosphere in the varsity crew was that, the members were critical of each other rather than focusing on the main goal of the race, winning. The JV team members gave feedback to the team addressing the entire team rather than pointing out the individuals of their mistakes like the varsity team did. This gave them a momentum to win each and every time they were on the race. Early when the teams were selected and they came back to Hudson River, the Varsity team started becoming unhappy over the fact that they couldn’t beat the JV team by a bigger margin. This implies that the team was filled with negative energy even though they won they did not discuss about the positive features of the team.

Formal education, high IQ or talent don’t automatically cause an early beginner to make it to the top. In most cases, world renowned experts can only do wellin limited areas. However, in their areas of expertise, they perform in a way nobody else can do. Most well-known successful individuals such as Olympic athletes, basketball players and celebrities are successful for two reasons: First, they focused all their time developing skills in an area where they are greatest. Second, they focused on an area where they had passion and love.
A good leader doesn’t have to know manuals by heart, only that they know how to reference material and complete a task complete and with mission complete rate at less above 95 percent. Everyone knows that many professional athletes are paid very, very well. However, many of these athletes also routinely give of their money and time to charitable causes. Volunteering for an important cause is a role-model quality that many athletes possess and that people should strive to emulate. Athletes are good role models because they are symbols of success. Most athletes are not born with a silver spoon in their mouth they work hard for the title there given so they can become successful in the near future.
If a leader can’t speak to their people and explain what it is that they want to happen or what they want to do to help the people, they really can’t be much of a leader. If that vision or goal isn’t communicated clearly or correctly, the chances of getting anyone on board to support it are slim to none. Words are some of the most powerful tools that any leader has, and if a leader doesn’t know how to use them, there is no way they can even begin to be effective. When it comes to sports teams, they should act just as professionally as anyone else. In fact, they should act more professionally than others for the simple fact they have more youngsters looking up to them as role models. Avoid insincere weaknesses that are clearly strengths disguised as weaknesses. Statements like: “my driven nature sometimes leads others to dislike working with me because I am always the strongest member of the team” certainly exhibits a weakness in interpersonal skills. The candidate may have intended communicate a strong work ethic and willingness to take on additional responsibility with such a “weakness” but the attempt can easily backfire. Overall, honesty and self-awareness will be noted and appreciated in the process whatever your strengths or weaknesses may be.
