The younger generation think that is what they should do since that is what they see on TV and the internet. Divinecaroline.com state “Reality shows have become very popular and teens have begun to realize that you can become famous just by being a bad girl, teen mom, or a crazy party animal who likes to do nothing but drink and “smush,” like the cast members on Jersey Shore.” Shows like this are giving teens the wrong idea. Why should the cast be paid so much for setting a bad example? This country is supposed to be looked up to as a great clean country. With shows like this on air for the world to see it is a disgrace.
Just as drunks can be both wildly happy and violently angry, Dionysus is present when a person is acting out in their drunken state. One who is intoxicated can be ecstatic in their celebration, a happy drunk, or can be violent and vicious, an angry drunk. He gifts ecstasy to his followers. Possessed by a power beyond their control, the worshippers of Dionysus let loose and give in to madness. This allows them to freely enjoy themselves and release any rage one has been holding back.
The Cindy Crawford commercial that Kilbourne discusses in her essay really brings the issue of the century long double standards to light. If the tables were turned and the boys in the advertisement were young women whistling at an older man they would definitely be looked down upon for their sexual interest. Ads like this show, our young girls that it’s okay for boys and young men to treat women as sexual objects. The impression given is that women were placed on earth to give men satisfaction whether sexually or visually even at the cost of being dehumanized. The fact that Cindy gave this image of having sexual satisfaction by drinking the can of Pepsi almost tells young girls that if I drink Pepsi I’ll be just as sexy and attractive
Explain why or why not. I think there are many reasons a person will laugh at a joke that will put down other people. One such reason is immaturity. Having worked with teenagers I think that this is their favorite way to joke around. I think it makes them feel better about themselves.
Twenge states, “To many older people, it’s funny. But too many younger people the main consumers of the reality shows on, say, MTV it shapes their views of the world” (pg 7). Narcissism is shown often, and without hesitation on reality TV younger viewers are being conditioned by the depiction of narcissism. Slowly, the excess amount of narcissism seems normal. For instance, on “America’s Next Top Model” young viewers wish to be thin, tall, and overall a model, but go about it in the wrong ways.
Much of life’s problems can be blamed on the excessive consumption of alcohol, but the bigger picture is gluttony in general. Too much money, or food, or power, or alcohol can leave one with an empty happiness. If a person is ignorant, they might try to remedy their problems with more false fulfillment. This quote is also comedic because it shows Homer’s stupidity. Though the writers are attempting to prove a point, the character of Homer is totally sincere.
From this, the morally sound character, Stan, tells the audience that stereotyping people is wrong, but it is also good to be cautious of certain things. This doesn’t just appeal to one argument; it takes both viewpoints and acknowledges each one as if both are equally important. This kind of show plays a big impact on our lives because it teaches us how to be a better person. I myself have learned much from South Park, and each time a reminder is needed I just look back and have myself a nice laugh or
The belief that Physical beauty is more important than intelligence is a very common habit throughout the world, especially in schools and as a result, people may often conform to accept values of appearances rather than focusing on the values of a persons gifts and talents. Conformity can be involuntary, so someone could not even know that they were following others. Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth (Kennedy). What this is saying is if a person conforms to others then they’re giving up their freedom to whom they’re conforming. If they do this, they cannot grow, or have their own thoughts or opinions or act on them.
Although television broadcasting don't have harmful intentions toward people, it still has a negative effect on its viewers. Entertainment has the capacity to use their t.v. shows to manipulate people into doing assertive things and by putting thoughts into peoples' minds. Because teenagers are repeatedly dealt with peer
The media likes to capture rock musicians using drugs at wild parties and acting irresponsible to get attention from people and increase magazine sales and ratings. I consider musicians to be artists who use music as a form of expression. The majority of their actions are to uphold certain image expectations from their fan base. Rock stars are expected to act wild and crazy always engaging in scandals to keep their fans wanting more. While a majority of these people are addicts with psychological issues who usually die from overdoses of illicit drugs many actually have families and are regular normal people when they are not in the spotlight.
