Thinking and decision making is an important part of one’s ability to come up with the best solution and decisions for issues or problems one could or will encounter every day. If answers to problems that may come up in one’s life were obvious, and readily provided, then one’s choices would be automatic, and working through a problem to find the solution or best course of action would be unnecessary. One must try to think through or predict accurately his or her reasoning and judgment for his or her decision making no matter what events or issues may arise. Understanding which problems are solvable is a vital part of thinking and decision making that can have an effect on the attitudes and behaviors globally. Compare and Contrast Three Different Types of Thinking In the world today, there are ultimately two types of thinking that are used. The first type of thinking is divergent in which creative and associative thinking is used, and is associated with the right side of our brain (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007). Second, there is convergent thinking, and in this logical and linear thinking is used. Convergent thinking is associated with our left side of the brain. Smaller sub-divisions of thinking can be derived from divergent and convergent thinking. Three other forms of thinking include logical, creative, and persuasive thinking. First is logical thinking which is a thought process that describes a process in which a thinker analyzes various facts, theories, and information. Next, analysis of the information to make an effective decision Subsequently, there is creative thinking and this style of thinking is primarily used to come up with new and unique ideas or solutions.
