Entering the Midwifery profession requires 3 hard working years at University to receive your degree. Being a midwife is not all about delivering babies but providing care and support for the women and their families during the antenatal and postnatal periods, and promoting a good knowledge of health. There are many positives side to being a midwife. Meeting new people and seeing them go through their journey to building their own little family. Helping the Mother and the Father through all of the antenatal and giving them any support they may need through the most exciting but scary time of their lives and being there when their new little family member is brought into the world. My work experience has brought me lots of skills in building a rappor with people whether it be to just offer advice and comfort or to give some moral support .Having good people skills will help with the patients and with the other midwives. A happy working environment will not only make our jobs more enjoyable but less stressfull which will help us provide better care to our patients. This will also help the expectant mothers relax. I think this will help me greatly when I am training and once I have qualified. I also work for a health and nutrition company so am confident I will be able to encourage the mother and father to be having a good nutritional balanced diet during and after pregnancy, making sure they and the baby are getting everything they need to be healthy. People think of midwifery and instantly say ‘oh what a lovely job’. Yes it is, but it isn’t all positives. The negative sides of the job never really get touched upon. Unfortunately there are always going to be some unhappy endings. Whether it be an early miscarriage, stillbirth or early neonatal death a lot of support and care is needed for the bereaving family as the care they receive can have a long lasting
