Arthur Miller used his own experiences with McCarthyism to write the play The Crucible. McCarthyism is the intense opposition contouring fear and or suspicion of communism particular in the United States during the 1950’s. This was McCarthy’s own invention to keep him in office. McCarthy accused a lot of people including Miller of being communist. This was very big at the time.
Susie’s dad smashes all of his ships that he made when he finds out Susie died. Mr. Harvey leaves before anyone can find him. Susie is with the same people in heaven in both the movie and book. Differences: In the movie Susie was just murdered, but in the book she was murdered and raped. Susie’s dad has a heart attack at the end of the book.
The Cunningham’s were poor, but very polite. The next time he appeared in the novel was when the lynching mob was formed, and Mr. Cunningham was a part of it. His beliefs changed drastically. He went from looking up to Atticus for guidance to being completely against Atticus defending Tom Robinson. When Scout rambled to Mr. Cunningham, it made him stand in Atticus’s shoes for a minute.
Tom Parsons appears in the cell. His daughter has told the police that her father is guilty of thoughtcrime. Chapters 11–12: O’Brien admits that he wrote a large part of Goldstein’s book and that the Party only wants power. O’Brien sends Winston to Room 101 where rats, the thing that Winston most fears, are waiting to eat him. Finally, he begs O’Brien to kill Julia rather than himself and so betrays her.
In “The Veldt” the house separated the family. This is due to the fact that the children spent all of their time in the nursery. So when George Hadley decides to close down the nursery the children go insane. The children viewed the nursery as their parents instead of their real parents. After that, Milo and Teddy get into an argument about Teddys father being a loony. Teddy is very defensive and they go back and forth about it. “your mother blows dead rats!, and if you call my dad a loony again, I’ll fucking kill you, you cocksucker!” (King 344). This line and the whole scene are in the film as well. The only difference is that the dog in the book was a mongrel dog and in the film it was a golden retriever.
He went from talking about the mitt to talking about his dead brother and how nice he was to everyone, he also mentioned how mad he was when his brother, Allie, Leukemia. “He’s dead now… they were going to have me psychoanalyzed and all because I broke all the windows in the garage” (Salinger 38-39). He finds him and the pool in a floating bed and shoots and kills Gatsby and then he kills himself. So as you can analyze, because of both Gatsby’s and Daisy’s imperfections there were many consequences. Gatsby’s desire for Daisy cost him his life and just to see Daisy run off with Tom. Daisy just didn’t care about anyone’s feelings; she cared more about her money and her beauty. Her actions lead to so much chaos and people suffered because of her fault and she didn’t care.
Mr. Gatsby accidently murdered Myrtle by running her over with his car. Myrtle’s husband found out that he killed her and went looking for him. He went to his house and shot him in the back before he was about to get in the pool. After he killed Mr. Gatsby, he shot himself in the head. Children should not be allowed to read about how somebody killed themselves by shooting themselves in the head.
