The Worst Dictators of the 21st Century Dictators and oppressors always have a bad end. Saddam Hussein and Muammar El Gaddafi are the worst dictators of the 21st century. Despite that both of them came to power with good faith to be the best heads of state of their respective countries, both became quickly the worst head of state ever. Saddam Hussein and Muammar El Gaddafi, while from different countries, have many similarities in their background, their dictatorship and their end. Saddam Hussein and Muammar El Gaddafi had almost the same background and accessed to power without killing their predecessor. Saddam and Gaddafi have many similarities in their early life but also some differences. Saddam is from a shepherd family and he never knew his father. After he completed high school, Saddam attended law school for three years and dropped out before he has graduated. Whereas Gaddafi is from a Bedouin family. After his high school studies, Gaddafi entered the Royal Military Academy of his country, when he graduated he decided to go into the United Kingdom where he received strong military training and joined the engineer corps. Interested in what is going on in the Arab world, Gaddafi planned and overthrew the monarchy of his country without a drop of blood and then he created the revolutionary command council as well as the Libyan Arab republic. He decided to be called “colonel” and nationalized the economy sections of Libya. Likewise, Saddam Hussein joined a revolutionary group in his country named Ba’ath. When a group of army officers overthrew the president of Iraq , Saddam and his party opposed to the new regime and they took power of Iraq in a bloodless coup d’état.
