In Montana 1948, By Larry Watson, Wes matures by coming to terms with his Brother Frank’s Crime. While Wes knew his brother’s guilt from the beginning, it took Marie’s murder to drive him to action. Instead of crumbling under the pressure of his brother’s guilt, Wes rises to the challenge and becomes one of the strongest characters in the book. In the beginning of the book, Wes doesn’t take advantage of the position of headship he has with the law. He starts out not using his authority for the position as sheriff as a role in leadership: “As long as my father was going to be sheriff, a position with so much potential for excitement, anger, and bravery, why couldn’t some of that promise be fulfilled?” (5).
This idea worked as the first, Johnny, responded to the call. One by one everyone came into the meeting where you all were able to get together and figure things out. At that meeting you all decided what you were going to do to get rescued and a leader was selected. The boy you chose was holding me, and he was
Mr. Ross’ class made The Wave more powerful because everyone joined it and people thought it was the “right” thing to do. Both stories share a theme topic but have different messages. Fist Stick Knife Gun by Geoffrey Canada and “The Wave” by Morton Rhue both share the theme topic of influence. Teenagers can easily be persuaded into thinking something by the peers around them. “He who influences the thought of his times influences the times that follow” (Elbert Hubbard).
First off, in many spots, Ender has power over people such as his classmates and family. Also, in many parts, peter is superior to people as well, giving him power over them. Also, in several instances, the government and Leaders of Earth have power over people in many parts throughout the book. Although the power is spread through many people, it is very clear that this book would fall under the power category, which we are learning about as our classroom theme. Based on these details, I believe that Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is definitely a power themed
The molding of the men of Police Battalion 101 from ordinary men to ruthless killers is likened to the molding of the prison guards from ordinary men to sadistic authorities. The use of this experiment becomes especially relevant when considering the similarities between the compositions of the participants analyzed. In Zimbardo’s experiment, the twenty-four selected were predominantly white middle-class males and thus relatively “ordinary”. In Browning’s study, the Police Battalion 101 also fit this “ordinary” niche, which when considering their ages, class, origins, and motives, no indication that these men would become mass murderers was made present. They were ‘middle-aged family men of the working-class”(1), implying that they had been exposed to alternative worldviews because they had been socialized before the Nazis came to power and as the working-class, were one of the groups least inclined to support the Nazis.
Not only did he bring the issue up, but also he announced numerous ways to make a change that should work if everyone really applied the techniques to their writing. He is a teacher, but he is talking about this topic from a different point of view as a director of a writing program. It all makes sense if everybody knows that. Think about it. If he has a job that calls for him to improve writers’ techniques then he is doing just that with this argument and convincing proposal.
Unfortunately Ralph, has been so focused on trying to lead the boys, thinking they would follow him simply because he was chief. He never quite realizes that there is an evil in the boys, as well as himself, that must be overcome with strong government and laws. Ralph's leadership, based simply on one vote and no real authoritative actions, has not been strong enough to lead the boys or to get the head to tell him the answers. Ironically, Simon, who did know the answers, is dead, killed when Ralph himself was taking part in the ritual
Collectively the 11 jurors question him as to why he voted guilty. Many jurors have personal prejudice and they are not willing to accept that the boy is not guilty. However, the juror who votes not guilty in the beginning uses role-play as well as assumptions that could be made to convince the rest. One of the jurors uses facts like the lady witnessed the boy killing the father. However, later the old man convinces him with his important
