The ones that stood out to me the most were: “Without education, you're not going anywhere in this world.” This quote influenced a lot of people, such as myself. This helped me to broaden my horizon and further my education. My second favorite quote is “A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.” To my understanding, if you do not have dreams and goals set forth to strive to
Westerberg said McCandless was the hardest worker he had ever seen. Even though Wayne Westerberg’s story did not end peacefully, McCandless still made a positive impact on Westerberg’s life. McCandless broadened Westerberg’s horizon when they held an intense conversation about escaping society. He tells Westerberg that parents and politicians are “hypocrites” that ruin and corrupt society. Similarly to Jan Burres thoughts on McCandless expedition, Westerberg did not agree with most of McCandless’ ideas, such as traveling to Alaska and leaving his parents, but he admired McCandless passion toward reaching his goal.
From my family and my friends, all of the blessings that I needed to have were there for me . I have no reason or no intention of throwing away the future I'm going to have. I owe this to my family, but one in particular. The man
After watching the movie Glory, my thoughts about the Union and the battles had changed. I began to notice that the Union needed more people so they allowed free slaves to help participate in the war. The thing I liked most about this was that black people had the right to fight in wars and got lots of respect from the generals. I felt really good when they were being appreciated just before going in a battle. There were many generals I liked because of their hard work to put their army together.
I want to help anyone I possibly can, and most would use the word selfless. Almost all the time I am smiling about something. I am a very positive person and like to see the “good” in everyone and everything. I try to make everyone feel special, because they are. There’s more to that smile than just always being happy.
“Songs are funny things. They can slip across borders. Proliferate in prisons. Penetrate hard shells. I always believed that the rights song at the right moment could change history.” These famous words were uttered by Pete Seeger, one of Americas most influential folk singer and songwriter of all time.
As a United States soldier, I also have be trained that it takes hard work, motivation, and dedication to make your dreams come true. Gen. Powell once said “It takes personal hard work and dedication for you to become all that you can be”. On the base of my belief I find this statement to be so true. I've never depended on anyone and never wanted to. I set goals for myself and inspite of everything I've gone through, I've accomplished them and in some cases exceeded them.
But in hind’s sight, he wants his father to fight for his life and not give in. Emotionally, having to watch someone die is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. It is excruciating being that the person has no way to help this person while they are in pain. Although we are set to face imminent death one day, you always hold to the hope that you will continue to live as long as you can. This is what Dylan was trying to express to his father on his dying bed as he says, “Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day, rage, rage against the dying of the light.” Dylan’s father was a soldier, and as his son, he saw his father as a figure that could never die.
George has experienced a lot of tragedy in his life but has also encountered hope. Firstly, a tragedy that George experiences is that he to kill his best friend, Lennie, by shooting him in the head. As George aimed the gun at Lennie, “[his] hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger” (Steinbeck 106). This affected George because he has to live knowing that he killed his best friend.
It seemed as if I was experiencing hell at one place and time in my life, I needed someone or something to become a safety net, a resting place, a sign of hope. I found God through all the craziness in my past and I found him to be everything I need. It seems as if I can count on him more than anyone in my life from him restoring me mind body and soul. He is the most important person in my life, he rescued me when I couldn’t hang on he told me to hold on. I believe that if he didn’t come when he did, I would literally be lost and because of him showing and making me feel that I am somebody, through compassion and overwhelming love I wouldn’t have achieved and conquered the things that I have
