Close study of a successful play reveals how the dramatist cleverly integrates dramatic techniques, structure and ideas. To what extent does this statement reflect your response to Cosi? The close study of the play Cosi, by Louis Nowra uses a play within a play to cleverly emphasise dramatic techniques, structure and ideas. The use of literary and visual techniques as well as stage directions emphasises these dramatic techniques, ideas and structure. Doing things for self-respect greatly outweighs doing things for material goods and doing so can change ones strength and courage to complete a challenge.
AS Level Drama Supporting Notes Section 1 The chosen practitioners for our AS Level drama performance of ‘Stolen Secrets’ by Finn Kennedy is the Kneehigh Theatre Company. We read books about Kneehigh, watched video clips of their performances and discussed their methods. The key aspect of Kneehigh that inspired was their unique way of storytelling that is woven into each of their plays. Kneehigh has been called ‘the company that has put the soul back into storytelling’. Kneehigh use physical theatre and eccentric characterisations to add to the quirkiness of their storytelling which was appealing to our group as we wanted to push ourselves to find new strengths enabling us to create challenging, innovative, emotionally-charged work as Kneehigh
I wish I could sing or dance like most of them. Now, I want to be one of them. It always seems to happen that way. Something you don’t give a chance always seems to prove those who didn’t even chance it wrong, Hair brought the love for theatre to life. Students of your same age, makes the messages that much more powerful.
Bringing a character on stage to life can be a difficult task. You have to find the right voice, body language, clothing, and the right expressions. In my high school the theatre students were so outgoing and creative. I admired them for their ability to take a brief description of a character and recreate that character on stage. Bret has this admirable quality.
The most significant consequence of any discovery is change offering new understandings and perceptions of ourselves and others. In Michael Gow’s play Away, reconciliation, redemption and restoration of relationships are the most important ramifications of discovery and change. Through the experience of theatre, Shakespeare allusion and symbolism the characters in Away develop an understanding of self and others transforming the characters from their initial state of emotional burden to a state of renewal and inner peace. In ‘Away’, suffering and death triggers the characters to undergo redemption and reconciliation to a state where that develop new understandings and perceptions. Through the intertextuality of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’,
With celebrities coming out and popular culture bringing attention to individuals living with HIV/AIDS I believe that Rent was trying to make this community and the events more accessible to the general public. Through the use of the group mentality in the play it allowed people to associate with one another and connect with the musical on a deeper level of caring for one another no matter the sex, health, or gender of those in the community. Rent involved the events the current world to make an impactful theme in the musical that would go on further to make an impact on society at
Movement is one of the elements used effectively within this performance, as the actors used all areas of the stage creatively to enhance the meaning of the play. Both abstract and realistic movement is used in the scenes. An example of abstract movement is seen when Romeo and Juliet first meet; in this scene they circled each other as they talked., Tthis in a way is abstract movement as it is not necessarily something people do in real life, but Zen Zen Zo used the circling to represent confronting an enemy and falling in love . Another example of movement is seen at the start of the performance, where the actors are getting ready for school. This element was used efficiently .to identify their actions.
These varied values are presented by the characters as it assisting the audience to consider all views. This is revealed when Roy discusses the purpose of Cosi Fan Tutee after Cherry asks what it’s about, he replies ‘about testing how true your love is’. He reveals his own position in the topic as he slates, ‘Don Alfonso is proved right’. Nowra’s technique a ‘play within a play’ is an effective tool as it acts as a catalyst for the characters to have a discussion on the topic of love and fidelity including people who aren’t in the play such as Lucy and Nick ensuring we see their evolving relationships. Nowra exhibits the major conception in the 1970s of free love, this questions a person’s fidelity as Lucy and Nick are having sex “She’s having sex with me, and sleeping with you”, as Lewis finds out he questions Lucy by quoting “love is like an Arabian phoenix”.
I think improvements could have been made but for it being a local play, I thought it was pretty good. The director’s vision, design of costume, scenic elements, lighting, and sound all correlated well with one another and helped create an enjoyable play. I applaud the director, actors, actresses, and the production team for doing a good job and I would recommend this play to friends and family. I hope that one day I can see a major production of August: Osage County. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to witness this
God of Carnage was a great play. The use of colors to symbolize the power struggle, the art deco furniture and the symbolism behind clothes were brilliant decisions towards enhancing the whole morale of the play. The characters did a wonderful job of setting the mood and atmosphere and capturing the whole ‘I’m better than you’ idea. The play not only helped the audience see how people actually act today but, without the audience knowing, made you more aware of your surroundings and how to analyze them; a tool that will come in handy in all aspects of anyone’s
