In Pleasantville, most people find their sense of Belonging when they change colour. Belonging is portrayed in Pleasantville because everyone is a part of it. There are people who do not change colour yet still have a sense of Belonging. They all work together to form one community in which they all Belong to one another. Simply put social justice refers to the equal and fair treatment of all people in all circumstances, no matter those persons background. Looking around the campus here at Cabrini, it seems as though for the most part every student is about in the same standing economically, and socially. Most students are from rural areas, and mainly Caucasian decent. Is it their fault than that they are unsure of how to deal with diversity and treatment of other people? It is!
At first, besides Chinese the Unity Party successfully united many ethnic minority groups in Australia including Vietnamese, Arabians, Jews, Koreans, Thais, Italians, etc (Tian 62). The reason why the Unity Party seemed so attractive that these ethnic minorities gradually joined in the party is its multi-cultural ideology. Diversity, the very core of the United States of America, is an important aspect of life. Diversity is respecting and understanding that each individual is unique, and that everyone has their own individual differences. Everyone should try to be a distinct and unique person, not a double or a copycat. The United States is a country that thrives upon its ever increasing cultural make up. The people have differences in ethnicity, religion, race, socioeconomic classes, gender, sexual orientation, and/or physical ability.
Our shared background and opinions created a strong bond between us and we made it our duty to assimilate every new African student into our community. We definitely used to stand out in a crowd and were often the loudest students but we did not mind or care because we had each other’s support and looked out for each other which were a necessity in a predominantly British school. It was only towards the end of my final year, that I realized that I was once again being limited to a single community, but this time I was doing it intentionally. Brussels is the center of the European Union, therefore, is a hugely diverse city.
