The Quraan was revealed to the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Makkah and also in Madinah over a period of 23 years. The Quraan is considered the word of Allah (God) sent to Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muhammad (peace be upon him) is also the last prophet of God (the seal of the prophets) and so the Quraan is also the last book send by God to mankind. Muslims believe that there were 124 000 prophets of God including Jesus, Moses, Jacob, Noah and Abraham (peace be upon them all). They all preached the same thing, that God is one. Muslims also believe that the Torah and the Bible were sent by God but they believe that they’ve been distorted by humans over time. Muslims have great respect for the Quran. The Quran was revealed in the Arabic language but it is a guide for all races. Even though most Muslims are not Arab, they are taught how to read in Arabic since childhood. Many people around the world memorize the entire Quran and safe guard it in their hearts. Muslims don’t just read the Quran as a book but they implement the verses into their day to day lives. For every letter of the Quran that a Muslim reads, he gets rewarded for it. It is read in the morning, during the five daily prayers, before bed and any other time Muslims please. The Quran is a guide for mankind. All the questions you have, the Quran has an answer for them, including who you are and what your purpose is as a human being. If a person truly believes that there is only one god, and that he created him then only will he be able to take in the message of the Quran. The Quran says in Surah 2:163-164, “your God is only one God, there is no God other than him, the compassionate, ever merciful….” In another verse (16:51) Allah states, “Allah has commanded: you shall not worship two Gods, there is only one God.
