The Role of Government in Policy-Making Establishing policies within an agency or organization is an essential process for ensuring the agency or organization functions properly. There are several important factors to consider when establishing policies. Incorporating laws and legislative task within the policy is required to ensure the agency or organization functions at a proper level. Legislative tasks include the following eight tasks: Task one: an interest group must provide a clear definition of the issue that is related to a social problem or concern. In turn, complete agreement with the general public and individual legislators regarding the issue is an essential process that must be achieved in order to receive full legislative and public support (Social Policy and Programs, 2005). Task two: gather informative and credible data or analysis that supports the problems or issues pertaining to the social problem. Oftentimes, compromising is a necessary process to bring together a coalition of supporters (Social Policy and Programs, 2005) Task three: solutions must be created to address the social problems or concerns. To accomplish this task, a public policy, a program design or provision must prove to be financially feasible, concrete and effective. In addition, legislators have to answer questions from their voter constitutes regarding the reasonableness of such programs (Social Policy and Programs, 2005). Task four: gain public support regarding the social issue or problem. Organizing public support is an essential process to motivate legislators (Social Policy and Programs, 2005). Task five: Convince a legislator to sign on to a bill in the sense of turning the social problem analysis, prospective social problem design features, and position papers into a legislative proposal.
