Playa Ancha University of Educational Sciences Faculty of Humanities English Pedagogy The role of feedback in SLA: Ideas for a quick understanding Paper to be presented in the Applied Linguistics course Members: Charly Cerda Rocío Molina Professor: Roberto Silva Valparaíso, Chile, 2010 ABSTRACT Different aspects of feedback will be reviewed in this paper, including various concepts of Feedback, the way the evidence works when it comes to Second Language Acquisition and what do we mean when we talk about Corrective Feedback. Other topics regarding different types of feedback and the techniques they offer for correcting potential mistakes during the language acquisition process are briefly included. In addition, some recommendations for our future activities as SLA teachers could be very useful and the reasons for this will be explained later on. INTRODUCTION This paper is oriented towards the understanding of some aspects of feedback in Second Language Acquisition and how some of these techniques can be applied in classrooms as effective methods of teaching in learning a second language. A quick review of some theories related to feedback are developed in this work arising from the notion that it is necessary for prospective second language teachers to clearly understand the real importance of applying corrective feedback in the classroom. That is why we decided to name our paper as “Ideas for a quick understanding”. We want others to understand some concepts and the importance of feedback clearly, simplifying the large amount of information regarding feedback in SLA related to certain features that are the basis for the performance of ideal English teachers.
