What to Say about the Family… In Indian culture, as children we are brought up to believe that family is the most important privilege people have, and because of this, if one were to go to India he would sometimes find two-three generations of people living in one house. There’s even people who aren’t even blood-related to the family, but they’re treated with the same reverence and care as the immediate family. And because everyone has a say in the house, the people in the house become our tribe: they influence the younger generations, they make it so that values are upheld, and they provide a sense of security from outside strangers. But thinking about it in a more western light, this idea of the influential tribe could also hold us members back from any outside knowledge, experiences, or desires (in terms
Child rearing, not economic competence, for example is considered the primary task of the parents (Fisher, 2002), and gender roles in the Amish community are considered to be traditional. The man works, the woman raises the children. However, the Amish family is non-traditional in the way that the man has the absolute say in any matter. As in most families, gender roles in Amish marriages vary by personality; there are shades of dominance from husband to wife across a wide spectrum with many variations. In non-farm families, typically the husband is the primary breadwinner, but in cases where a wife owns a business, she may provide most of the family income.
My family is not quite like either of the families in the film, but it is does have more similarities to Tre’s family. The family structure within my home consists of; my parents who are still married and living together, my sister, and myself, I also have a brother who is married and lives on his own. My parents agree on most things when it comes to the raising of their children. My mother is stronger on the school and academics aspect while my father is more easygoing, but regardless, both parents want what is best for their
Considered by most to be the backbone of America, it is how we socially and culturally indoctrinate our offspring so they are able to become a functional member of society. A lack of a full family is often cited as the reason that children end up as criminals or delinquents. The notion of family being the birthplace of problems is not even something most people could find feasible, which is what makes Barbara Ehrenreicht's essay "Are Families Dangerous?" seem a bit out in left field to most readers. But upon closer inspection and reflection into ones own family life, and the lives of those around them, Ehrenreicht's essay begins to make a lot more sense.
For instance, the father was attempting to arrange the marriage of his daughter Mariane to Tartuffe. This was accepted in the 1600s as the norm, but today women have freedom to marry who they wish despite what their parents would rather have happen. It is similar to today’s culture in America because it shows that the man of the house, Orgon has all the authority over every decision made in the house. He did not even tell his wife, or anybody else for that matter, that he was going to make Tartuffe the sole heir to everything he owns. Although the man of the house today does not usually have quite that much power over the family, it is still known that the man will make most, if not all of the bigger decisions in the house.
The television show, Full House, presents an extended family unlike the ideal family. The household includes a widowed father, his daughters, his brother-in-law and a friend. Although this family is not the “typical” family, it is just as strong, if not stronger, as any other family. This is much like Guthrie’s family that is presented in Plainsong. Guthrie is left to take on both the role of the mother and father.
The same case where an immigrant leaves their country for good intentions can have bad effect on their family back home. For example, when someone leaves home it can cause their family to lose income and suffer more as a result until the immigrant can either return or send remittances. That is the main negative result when someone immigrates to the US. For individuals in the US, when immigrants are seen either in school or at work, many believe that they are here illegally and are taking the jobs of American people. Even though this fact is true, in most cases, it is not true and the immigrant has earned the spot or position they are currently in.
Close knit-family I don't view my important characteristics as different from those my family has imparted on me throughout the years. The pride, care, dedication, effort, and hard-working attitude that I view as critical to any success I may achieve have all descended upon me courtesy of my close-knit, Italian family. Born the child of two immigrants who came here with nothing, only one possessing a college degree, the importance of a good work ethic was stressed by my parents from day one. Through their actions in their jobs and through the verbal lessons on life I began to get from the moment I could communicate, they set an example for me to follow, one of being proud of what I do, no matter what it was, and above all, to care about
Some people may never mature and choose to live there lives that way. Those people usually are inconsistent financially, and unstable and live a life of unhappiness. Maturity doesn't mean that we need to act like monks, but that we should have the intuition and common sense to know when it is appropriate to joke and the boundaries. Growing up I matured at a young age, my parents were strict and when I matured they became strict in a different way. I was held to an unspoken standard.
The idea of an immigration reform has been talked about for the past few years. Many think it’s a good idea and many not so much. Some believe that it will bring bad things for the economy, that it would bring plenty of competition for American born workers, and that many more immigrants would be influence to cross the border to get advantage of the reform. At the same time they don’t step into the shoes of those who don’t have some type of medical insurance, that aren’t capable of visiting their families because there is no easy way back into the country, they don’t think about the children who are separated from their illegal parents. Most of what they believe is wrong, economy would be pushed up, the reform will create many more jobs for people, and there will probably be some type of system to know how long someone has lived in this country.
