The Restaurant at the End of the Universe Douglas Adams Douglas Adams was born 1952 and died in the spring of 2001. He lived in Cambridge, UK. Adams is most known for writing ”The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy” but that´s only the first book in the five-book ”trilogy”, he also wrote “Life, The Universe and everything”, “So long, And Thanks For All The Fish”, “Mostly Harmless” and a few other books. Adams seems to only write twisted comedy and satire. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is the sequel to “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” and the second book in the “trilogy”. The book is about an Englishman named Arthur Dent who escaped the Earth with his alien friend Ford Prefect just before it got destroyed by Vogons, to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. After they escaped they met Trillian McMillan, an Earth-woman who escaped Earth months earlier, and the two-headed Zaphod Beeblebrox who happens to be the president of the galaxy and is on the run after stealing the new and revolutionary spaceship, “The Heart of Gold”. On the ship they met Marvin, a depressed robot who hates his existence; they are the main characters in the book. The group, consisting of Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Trillian McMillan, Zaphod Beeblebrox and Marvin finds themselves trapped in the Heart of Gold when they get attacked by Vogons. They get saved by an unlikely rescuer and sent by the improbabilitydrive to dinner at the closest restaurant, which happens to be several millions of years in the future. After a nice dinner at the restaurant at the end of the universe also called Milliways, during which the guests can drink and eat while watching the world end, the group steals a spaceship that´s pre-set for a so called “Sundive”.
