The Relationship between Two Statistics Furthermore, even though descriptive and inferential statistics have a lot of differences they still share a common goal. The relationship between the two is that they are the science of one; collecting data, two; describing the data that has been collected, and three; inferring from the description. They rely on the same set of data, describe a group of objects, and help us draw conclusions about that object. Additionally they are both used to reveal patterns through the analysis of numeric data and to model the relationships among those variables .Even though they may describe something different about an object they both provide the type of information the researcher seeks. Inferential statistics just takes the same information obtained and is able to take it a step or two further. According to (Laerd Statistics, 2012), when analyzing data, for example, the marks achieved by 100 students for a piece of course work, it is possible to use both descriptive and inferential statistics of their marks. Typically, in most research conducted on groups of people, you will generally use both descriptive and inferential statistics to analyze the results and draw conclusions. For example, if you were interested in the exam marks of all the students in the UK you would first need to use descriptive statistics to show the exam marks of let’s say 100 students in the UK.
