The Reasons for Becoming a Teacher Keona Thibeaux The Art and Science of Teaching 501 July 28, 2014 Theresa Schneebacher The Reasons a Person Becomes a Teacher Education has been the key point in the lives of many people. It has opened up the doors to many different experiences. Thanks to education, people have had the opportunity to choose what they wanted to do in life and decide where they wanted to live. Education gives freedom to make decisions. By being educated people are able to make their own decisions and understand the experiences in which life holds. Experience is the best teacher. Brent (2005) states, “To this day, at times when my students tell me, either directly or via various avoidance behaviors that they cannot understand something I have just explained, I believe that is the moment of using what I have just studied as a teacher to analyze my own experience as a (slow) learner that best ensures I respond in the way struggling students deserve”. (para. 10) Every day, information that is relevant to teaching should be implemented into daily life experiences. Life begins to flourish once undergrad studies becomes complete. That is the result of the type of education someone receives. It encourages people to move forward. To begin sorting through the many different careers to choose from in the world, many choose to be a teacher. For many teachers, the reason they have chosen teaching as a career began with their very own personal experiences. Some people have been touched in a way that has made them want to have the same desire. Added to that desire is a people who feels they have a calling upon their lives. To be called, a person has to already understand a lot of material and be able to explain it to others. Some people choose to become teachers because of student potential.
