The Purpose Driven Life At some point or another each conscious individual has had a thought to ponder about what he or she is really here on earth for. What is my purpose? Do I truly have a purpose or do I just live my life the best way I know how and die? As reported by Rick Warren, the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, we are here for a purpose. That very purpose is God’s purpose. In Rick’s “bestselling nonfiction hardback book in history” (according to Publishers Weekly), Pastor Warren speaks that we are not an accident. Even though our parents may not have made plans to give birth to us, God expected it. And the Bible says, “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me” (p.22). The Purpose Driven Life is a devotional book created as a forty day spiritual journey. Author Warren instructs each reader to read one chapter daily with the aspiration of answering the question “What on earth am I here for” (p.15). At the end of each chapter he gives you “A Point to Ponder”, “A Verse to Remember”, and “A Question to Consider”. Each chapter is summed up into five major purposes. However, the first seven chapters guide you into a clearer, in-depth discussion on the leading question “what on earth am I here for” (p.15). The first purpose is to help you comprehend that you were planned for God’s pleasure. Secondly, you were formed for God’s family. Purpose three equips the reviewer with the knowledge of being created to become like Christ. Fourthly, every mortal is to be shaped for serving God. And last but not least, you were made for a mission. Written in the scripture of the book of Matthew chapter 22:36-37 it states that the greatest commandment in the law is that “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” The biblical scripture quoted in the last sentence is the epitome
